Hey there! Jags fan moving from Utah to FL for school at fscj.

What is the cheapest area to live in for students?
Guess it depends on which campus you'll be attending.
Depends on what you want around you, there's everything within and hour drive. If you want a more rural living arrangement Middleburg, green cove, palatka, parts of St. Augustine. If you want more of the city experience Arlington, south side, orange park.
Yewl like the scoolin hear.

The area right around the campus (Springfield) is relatively inexpensive and is alive with excitement.  Anywhere north or west of that is also a good option.  Don't cross the river or head south by any means.

There is also Kent campus, the one on Beach and the one over at Cecil Field...

Thanks for the replies!! Can't wait to come to my first jags game!!!!
$500 or less would be ideal, is this considered the downtown area?

No, it's more like the gunfire at night area.

Find a roommate to help with the cost and get a place at the beach.

Riverside or Brooklyn would be a good option too.

You won't find much even close to $500 your going to need a roommate if that's your budget.
anything less than about $700 will put you in an area that you probably dont want to be in

DO NOT move to Springfield or anywhere downtown if you are moving to Jax for the first time. Bad idea.

Move somewhere near the Town Center or the beach.

Outside of price do you have any other caveats?

You can use apartment.com and enter in all your caveats to narrow down your search. As others have said, I would highly recommend you look near Riverside or somewhere east of the river.

And... "The gunshot at night area"...lol awesome, no wonder it is cheap.

Around $4000 for 6 months rent is about avg in a lot of cities. I'm OK with $700 rent. That area was with in 20 mins of the school, and the stadium, thanks for the feedback.
I'm 33, and single (after 8 years, yikes). Hobbies: indoor rock climbing gyms, golfing, breweries, tacos, good pizza, long boarding, BBQ, playing pool. Just chilling basically. Jaguar football, and school is all I'm coming out there for, so far. I'm trying to finish my degree so I can be in charge of a Ford dealership's service department. Ive been a mechanic and service adviser for 10+ years.

You'll be able to add 'long walks on the beach' once you get here.

Ha Me and you are on the same path brother!

I'm done with my BAS in management next month, I've been an automotive service manager the last 8 years so I went and got my BAS. Figure with experience, ASE certs, and a degree I would qualify for a service manager job at a dealership one day (obviously those are the Holly Grail jobs in automotive). But I tell you what just working towards the degree opened some new doors for me and I've more than double my income from just a few years ago.
