Quote:As an entertainer, maybe.  As an artist and a musical talent he left Jackson in the dust.

I can't disagree with you there.  He certainly was a very talented man.
I liked those two chicks from the cream video... those two got me through some lonely times in high school...
I wondered why Nuno Bettencourt played a bit of "Purple Rain" last night. I hadn't yet heard the news. RIP, Prince.

I would bet that you're still lonely.   Wink
Quote:They were talking about that performance this morning on The Dan Patrick Show, of all places. Apparently Prince didn't know While My Guitar Gently Weeps, so they sent him the music the day before. Then he comes on stage and owns it. I loved the end, when he tosses his Telecaster up in the air and walks off, and the guitar never comes back down.

What a showman.
It was truly amazing. The thing that stuck out to me about that particular guitar solo was how effortless he made it look. Just grinding away and totally effortless. I didn't know the bit about him not knowing the song, makes it even that much more amazing.
I know he sings purple rain but I have no idea what the songs about? What the heck is purple rain?

According to this website, Prince defined it as:

Quote:When there’s blood in the sky - red and blue = purple.. purple rain pertains to the end of the world and being with the one you love and letting your faith/god guide you through the purple rain

In the video, starting around the 4:00 mark until that great walk-off, you can see the joy he got from that performance. That will my lasting image of Prince.

His smiling at the other performers made me smile.
Have you guys seen this? I had no idea he'd been on the Muppets, and apparently several times.

Video He was such a talented man. Even in the genre of children's music.

So I guess you've never seen the movie. A powerful performance.

No I didn't know there was a movie?

Purple Rain is a pretty good movie.  Some people may not know that all of the songs performed in that movie by other bands/artists were written by him.  It leans more towards the pop/funk side of his music.  It's a pretty good story, even if you aren't in to that genre of music.
Really think he should had made more movies IMHO. RIP!

Most beautiful girl in the world...

It's arguably the best poorly acted movie of the 80's.

Eric, this is the most compelling reason yet for you to leave the compound more often.
Best live performance I've ever seen, and likely ever will.

One of the most talented artist to ever walk the planet.

RIP

Being reported that he had Full Blown AIDS and he refused treatment for it.

I've heard that one too. Wouldn't he look like the AIDS victims from the 80's and 90's if that were the case? I know he was a Jehovah's Witness and they don't do blood transfusions and stuff, but do they refuse all medical treatments too?
