Quote:The average NFL player salary is 1.9 million a year. or 118,750 a game. You are a large burden on society if you aren't making that much at least every half decade or so.

Are you expecting an average NFL player to only work one year? Even so, 1.9M over 6 years equals to roughly 38k a year. I know people in public service type careers (police, teachers, etc) who aren't too far from that.

All he said was they make more in one game than he makes in a lifetime, which isn't even close to true unless he is a stay at home dad or something.
When I read Von Miller is not attending voluntary workouts, the reason given had nothing to do with his franchise tag. It is Dancing With The Stars, which takes place in southern California. I will worry about it if he is a no-show after returning to Denver.

Quote:                          Years / Total             / AAV

Von Miller (offer) 5 / $90,000,000 / $18,000,000

Malik Jackson         5 / $85,500,000 / $17,100,000

It's crazy how much GM Dave Caldwell over paid Jackson...

don't forget 41 million of it was guaranteed... :woot:   good for him, hopefully he doesn't simply quit now..

shaking my head how is it that he gets paid more than JJ Watt?
Didn't you [BLEEP] and moan about not signing norman?

can you word that better so your math isn't completely awful.   1,900,000/6 = 38,000?

nvm

Von Mller is quite possibly the best defensive player in the NFL at this point, but taking $20-$25mm on a non qb is a large large chunk of your salary cap to risk.

Guess he wants more guaranteed money...  Considering Olivier Vernon got over $50 Mil, can't say I blame him.

I guess that's true.  I would say he should get closer to 60 if Vernon got that.

There are such a limited amount of people on earth who can do what he does so I will never criticize him for wanting to be paid the wage he's earned in his profession.

It also sounds like he wants to be paid like he's in free agency as well. I like that approach by him because too often the absolute premier players at their respective positions get resigned to contracts that are nowhere near what they would command on the open market. You see a guy like Vernon get paid ridiculously because he's a solid enough player that a team allows to walk in FA but not a blue chipper that a team cannot afford to lose.

Guys like Watt and Miller actually lose out on earnings over the length of their careers because they are so great and are never given the chance to hit the open market and receive those ridiculous contracts that good not great players get.

They could easily hit the market. They don't have to sign extensions.
I see this as one of two things.

1. He's either clearly foolish. And doesn't realize Denver is not going to budge an inch on this deal. They've already started a potential hard reset or rebuild with no proven commodity at quarterback.

Or

2. He's not sure if the Broncos will be the same Superbowl caliber team now with an unproven commodity at quarterback, which, is very well likely.

I am going with 2.

There was a comparison I saw not too long ago though between Watt and Miller. And the argument was that Watt only gains his massive sack totals because he plays in a weak AFC South division. And somehow, that makes Miller a better player. However, in reality, when you look at Miller's sack numbers from 2015. 7 of his 11 sacks came against the AFC West. And there was even a five week streak of where he only managed to rack up 1 sack and 1 tackle in 5 games against non-divisional or non-conference opponents.

It's just a foolish argument. Does that mean he's a terrible player? No. He did show up during the play-offs. He did eat his opponents alive during the most important games. So he's earned his payday in his eyes. But I just find it funny how people base their arguments. Denver didn't have a top quality defense strictly because of him. And he has to recognize that. And to be honest with you. Nearly that entire defense has either left during this off-season. Or they're landing in hot water. See Talib. Ware also isn't getting any younger. And Wolfe has an issue with staying healthy.

At 26 years old. He's insane for passing up on this deal. BUT, if he's really all about winning and not the money. It makes sense for him to turn down that offer. Because he's taking a huge risk and bet on himself at this point by not signing that deal that he's been offered. If he gets injured. If his numbers dip just the slightest bit. He's not going to see this kind of money from a winning and more competitive football team.
Quote:It's that time of year, but I am always amazed at the greed of these guys. They still play a game. They did not help the league get to the cash cow it is now why should they take so much of the profits. These guys nor their fathers were even born yet. I wish I could hold my company for ransom with the rest of the employees demanding profit sharing.

Yea right.

They should feel blessed with the god given ability to be lucky enough to play in the NFL.

Stop acting like spoiled children. It's like a he said she said. Hell these guys make more for playing one bleeping game of football than I will in my lifetime probably.

Remember that ......one bleeping game. It is ridiculous.

Steps off soapbox so the ......well you know crowd can chime in.
I'll have to disagree. If you have issues with money and greed then start at the top with the NFL itself. These guys are risking their bodies, future lives as we have seen and shortening their life span. The owners and those paid at the top of the NFL are making way more money with out taking any of that risk. It is relative to what the NFL is bringing in. Players should get paid especially if they are a star in the league.
The owners have 100's of millions of dollars at risk in this. If there is some sort of concussion findings that scare people enough about football their ratings, top tier players, etc all take a hit.  Players stand to lose salary, while the owners risk billions.

Of course they have risk. I don't think many believe they risk losing billions. That's an extreme take. But even if you think the percentage is high that they will lose billions they have their health to the extent that they can control. The players are at a high risk for an uncomfortable life dealing with pain after their career. Money means little if you don't have your health.

the average player makes 1.9 a year, which is 118000 a game. I hope you dont make less than 118k in your life that would be pretty bad

so why arent police officers, fireman and especially military men and women rich?
How many defensive players in the history of the league have had the back-to-back performances he had in the AFC Championship and the Super Bowl?

That is why he will get $22M+ per with $50M guaranteed. He was lights out and shut down MVP QBs. Pay that man his money.

Supply and demand.

Also if anyone thinks von is foolish for not taking that deal, wait until you see the deal he eventually signs.
