I kinda like the thought of trading back with Cleveland for their 2nd and 4th this year. Then we grab Fournette with our 1st at 12, and then trade back into the 1st with Clevelands 2nd and our 5th and grab Mccaffrey. I think Mccaffrey would be extremely valuable as our 3rd down back and our punt/kick returner. He will instantly be a top return man in the league. I witnessed this in person at the Rose Bowl 2 years ago against my Hawkeyes. He's pretty incredible. I'd still keep Ivory and Yeldon for depth because we have plenty of money and can, unless we could move Ivory for a pick, then I'd do that.
Oh man.

Lord.

What?

Huh?

Haha I know 2 backs that early is crazy. I just think Mccaffrey could improve our return game drastically, but I don't want him as our 1st and 2nd down bruiser.
No.Just no.

No way we would go after both. However, the more I watch McCaffrey the more I want him on this team. I'd be cool with trading down to 12 to get him, and then load up on lineman and a TE from there on.

Why not get a 3rd RB later? We have to make sure to have some decent backups for the other two RBs we drafted.

It just might work. With Fournette and McCaffery, it might not even matter if Blake sucks... err, reverts to bad habits... again.

Picture it...

  1. Fournette

  2. McCaffery

  3. Ivory (FB)

  4. Grant

  5. Yeldon

Now THAT's a backfield

I'll eat my shoe if the Jags pay Chris Ivory 6 million dollars to lead block in 2017.

It a'int gonna happen.

The whole point with the FB idea is that it gets him on the field in the event the draft Fournette. You don't draft Fournette and then not start him immediately, and we can't waive Ivory this year because it would mean a $7 mil dead money hit where his current cap hit is only $5.8 mil.

Now if we could trade him, his new team would be responsible for $4.5 mil and he'd only cost us the remaining $1.3 mil this season ...and then another $3 mil dead money hit in 2018.

His contract is structured wisely.  All of his guaranteed money is in the first two years. They can cut him after 2017 and have no dead money moving forward.

If they draft a RB high, then they'll either try to trade him or just play him in a rotation/committee approach. If the Hackett offense really plays balanced, you can expect the team to have between 450-480 rushing attempts. If you give Ivory 10 attempts per game that leave 290-320 attempts for your rookie.

Which is plenty.  For perspective - Elliott ran the ball 322 times last year.

I think if Ivory is on the roster come September, he'll get carries regardless of the draft.

I've got news fellas, it isn't going to be a RB in round one. No matter where we pick. Take it to the bank.

Not exactly... Ivory also has a singing bonus dwindling down at the rate of $1 mil per year. In other words, if you cut him after 2017 he'll still cost $3 mil in 2018... and so forth, meaning if cut after 2018 he'd cost $2 mil as dead money in 2019,

I stand corrected. It would be 3 million in dead money if they cut him after 2017.

Doesn't alter my stance on him playing full-back.

As a FB they could also feature him as an old-style pro-set split back alongside Fournette. ,,,plus there would be nothing stopping him from also playing RB... he'd just still be on the field when Fournette is.

Some of you guys get too creative...In the worst ways leading up to the draft

Ivory is one of the worst blocking backs in the league. Ivory at FB is laughable

Picture it...

Putting one of the worst blocking backs in the league at FB isn't very smart. I thought we want to improve the run game not make it worse?
02 always good for some 'unique' ideas.

I'm not sure about good....unique nonetheless.

Title should read, 'Darft Scenario.'
