Quote:It's always interesting to see not only how those familiar with the team, like Dirocco and Prisco, but also those that aren't particularly familiar with the team feel about the upcoming Jaguars season.

Going by the predictions on ESPN's NFL nation blogs where each team's writer predicts wins and losses for their team on the season only three opponents see the Jaguars as getting a win against the team they write for. Kuharsky, who covers the titans thinks the Jaguars will split with a team that earned the #1 draft slot, Jeff Legwold, who covers the broncos, thinks the Jaguars will be a classic sneak up and steal a win trap game, and Paul Gutierrez, who covers the raiders thinks the Jaguars can win against the Raiders, probably because the two teams pay some attention to each other due to both having ascending young QBs from the same draft.

The sad thing is they're probably not far off in their beliefs. Sure the Jaguars will probably win more than 3 games, because it's hard to lose 13 times in the NFL if you're even close to competent and trying just because of the way the season can play out when it comes to opponent injuries and such, but the Jaguars are still seen as a bunch of clowns with an ice cream scooping sprinkles slinging head coach when it comes down to it.

You do understand that the prediction of a team's record is different than the sum of the predictions of the individual games? Last year the Jags were preseason underdogs in every single game, but were not predicted to go 0-16.

Quote:If the Jags go 3-13 both Dave and Gus should probably be fired, barring catastrophic injury.
And whoever inherits this team will be getting a plethora of 'in their prime' talent on this offense. It will be a very sought after position(s).

Before we all flip out... keep in mind HC Gus Bradley averages only 4 wins a year... out of 3 years & if the team does draft injured Myles Jack to play MILB (assuming they fire Poz) and if Myles isnt healthy or gets reinjured then what?

team still needs a corner badly.. but really has no edge pass rusher.. assuming fowler is ready and healthy if he lives up to the hype then no problem but if not

after letting Chris Clemons & Andre Branch go.. who plays leo Skuta?

It's a strange thing, the general perception tends to blur around the actual result. Sure there are exceptions, but normally when a lot of people think a team will be bad, it almost always is, and except for a few people that are big fans, the consensus seems to be that the Jaguars still won't be a good team this season.

If the Jaguars aren't good in 2016 the question will be "Why were the Jaguars, a team with pro bowl level players at multiple positions on offense and defense, (Bortles, The Allens, Malik Jackson, Sen'Derrick Marks, etc) and playing in a relatively weak division, not good?" Given those conditions what would be your most likely guess?
It would almost have to be the coaching and game planning (or lack thereof). Don't get me wrong; I want the Jags to have a great season; however, if Vegas' has already pinned us as losers, there's a reason for it. I tend to see Gus Bradley as the 'sacrificial chicken' who was brought in here to help develop a bunch of rookies... and with the hope (though not a very high expectation)  that he would lead the team to the playoff's. After the new 'core' had been coached up (and they largely have) he would be fired and replaced by a coach with greater winning potential.

The only bump in this road, really, has been that Gus probably should have been 'circle filed' at the end of last season. Gus is a nice guy and very well liked by the players.... but he is not a winning HC; far from it. Once a team is in a losing 'rut' it's very difficult to come out of it without major changes... that's why the team got gutted several years ago, remember? If this team has one or less wins before the bye, the writing is on the wall.

When I look at the roster after Free Agency, I'm not excited.  I don't pay enough attention to the offseason and college players to properly evaluate the draft.  So really it will come down to the regular season again.  I'm not convinced we will break through this year.  Something is off still about the team and the situation.

The coaching?
3-13 is a possibility. Bortles can have a "sophomore slump". Injuries to key players can happen.
The team "got gutted", yet it's the coach's fault that a gutted team with little to no talent hasn't won more than a handful of games since doing so....Some of you people really should try using that gray matter between your ears before you post.

We are using the gray matter.  That holds true for seasons 1 and 2 under Gus.  Last year was multiple games handed over on a platter and the staff did zip with the opportunities.  Every year is a new opportunity.  We will see.  I'm backing off the adjustments deal after watching the playoffs last year.  Talented coaching staffs had no answer or adjustments to make and that was odd to witness.

Perhaps you should start the trend by using yours more; a 'gutted' team' might be excused for poor play the first couple of years, but after that it's really more of a reflection of other factors, with one of those being the coaching. We had multiple games we played last year that we had the talent to win with... but didn't.

Spoken like a true loser.

That they lost to less talented teams last year really should matter.
Nobody is picking the jags to go 3 and 13. Seldomright can't do math or logic apparently and no bothered to read his little blurb. No loss really but his thread title is disingenuous.

And, yes, the only people complaining about bad coaching are on this board...and Alfie. Good luck with that.

And to talk about the level of talent like this team is stacked is just flat out stupid.

We will be much better positioned with Marks, Fowler, Linder and Sample coming back, adding the free agents and another solid draft. But last year we had a very bad defense. Like the actual players. No coach is going to do much with that pass rush, sorry; it just ain't realistic.

The 49ers had a completely gutted roster, an awful coach, they play in a great division and Gabbert......They had the same amount of wins as us. We played against some really bad teams, bad/backup QBs and we played in the worst division in football.

We should have won more than 5 games last year. Thats a fact.

In his 3rd year.

I know, what I was referring to, he had a great year, his first great statistical season, this past season, and he might have a fall off the next season, it happens.

We were told there would be no math.

Just like commas. They happen.
