Quote:My brother has a Green Egg and swears by it.
I usually BBQ on an open fire or in a deep pit. If it's just a regular old dinner the I'm sorry to report the propane grill gets busted out.
Anyone here have a Green Mountain Grill?
I would love to have a Green Egg, but I just can't justify the cost. I like to bbq and smoke on occasion, just not
that often. I have a large smoker but use my Weber grill most of the time. Up to 3 racks of ribs in the middle, or a whole chicken, using indirect heat. Works like a champ.
Quote:Whatever you decide, I prefer a fruit wood for smoking material.
I definitely prefer the fruity woods, apple and cherry are both good but peach is probably my favorite.

Big Green Egg's are definitely expensive, I bought my Vision at Costco on sale for $450. They no longer carry the brand but if you look around for a used BGE you can find them for a bit cheaper. Still though, the fact that they hold their value so well speaks for itself.

For [BLEEP]'s sake, don't give away
all the secrets...
Just give hints.
Who cares if it's "cheating"? It's perfect, every time. No if's and's or butts
You can still screw up a good smoke with electric and pellets, so I wouldn't go far as to say it's perfect every time.
Harder to get wrong, but not terribly difficult to do.
Quote:Pirkster, when you smoke the brisket, how exactly do you do that? You obviously have a smoker (which is something I need to invest in) but where do you get the meat? Do you go to a butcher and prepare the meat yourself or do you buy it already prepared to smoke?
You do not need a smoker. I bought a 9lb brisket from BJ's, ran out and bought a $50 charcoal grill from Kmart and did it exactly like this. My gosh was it so freaking good! It was my first time smoking anything. I left the hot stuff out cause the wife doesn't like heat. But like I said, my god was it so good and I plan on doing this again!!!

I agree on the electric part being cheating.
Hooking up the smoker to your phone? Unplug and enjoy life and put a little effort into your cooking. If not just go eat out.
Speaking of wood chips. Where do you get your wood chips? Are the ones off the shelf at your local hardware store good or is there a place that has better?
Years ago we had an electric smoker and he decided to smoke a turkey for thanksgiving. Thank god I cooked one in the over too because the stupid smoked turkey was finished FOUR hours after everyone had gone home. It was a really good turkey though! The funny thing is he left it sitting out on our front porch and someone stole it ...neither one of us was even mad about it! We kept making jokes about eventually finding it sitting back on the porch one day after whoever stole it found out how sucky it was!!
None of you will ever get to have my pulled pork.....

You're obviously not interested in sharing if you keep pulling it.
It's worth joining Sam's Club just to get the ribeye steaks for $7.98 a pound. Most of the time they're $9.98, but often, they are $7.98.

you're welcome
I literally forgot about this recipe which was the initial reason why I started doing grilled oysters in the first place!

I'm a cheater I guess! I do lots of things the old fashion hard way, when it comes time to cook I take the easiest route and man that electric smoker was easy.

No pellets, my electric one takes wood chips just like a regular box smoker.

Gotta get up early to put it on! Don't blame the smoker for your laziness! haha Or you can put it on real low and let it cook overnight. (Because an electric one, I can really control the heat)

I cook outdoors over fires, pigs in pits, etc during hunting season. When I'm home and cooking for the fam, make it good, make it easy.

I'm thinking cooking from midnight the night before should have produced a turkey that was ready to eat long before 6pm the next day...but hey, I'm sure you know more about our turkey and smoker than, you know...the people using it. :teehee:
Quote:Apparently
You must be the one that stole it!

I have a BGE and smoking ribs on it is soooo good. So many things you can do on it. It is an expensive item, but it will last you a lifetime.
I have a buddy who made a vertical filing cabinet into a smoker. It works like a charm.

10 gallon drums work excellent.
