No link, just heard it on Mike & Mike.

I wonder if Caldwell would try to work a trade with them and give them Joeckel?  They may be desperate.

Joeckel for a third

Ryan Clady or trading up from pick # 20 come to mind immediately as possibilities for the Jets.
We should give him a call. He's only retiring because the Jets were trying to screw him into a pay cut in order to pay Fitzpatrick.

If Tunsil drops to 5, maybe acquire a massive package from Jets? They'll def want him now. This years 1st, Wilkerson, a 3rd rounder, and next years first? lol

Id take that.

Where are they picking in the draft?

It doesn't matter with that haul tho.

First thing I thought of.  That changes our draft plans up a little bit though I'd think.  Can't 100% rely on Beachum being out there week 1 I don't think.

The Jets are one of those teams that do not hesitate to trade up, even in the first round.

But I'm not sure they should trade up in the first if the goal is to replace Ferguson.

It's looking like at least 4 tackles are going to have first round grades:  Tunsil, Stanley, Decker, and Conklin.

It sounds as if the momentum is favoring Decker rising into the top ten with Stanley dropping out of the top ten.

I have my questions about Conklin as a LT, but I think if Stanley or Decker make it out of the top ten, there's a decent chance one of them will be there at 20.

Chicago, and Detroit are the two teams between 11-20 that leap to mind as having needs at LT, with Oakland arguably having a need at that spot.

New Orleans just drafted Andrus Peat and have a good prospect in Terron Armstead.

Miami has Brandon Albert.

Oakland has Donald Penn who is 33 and could possibly be upgraded.

Los Angeles just drafted Greg Robinson, but they are probably on the hunt for a QB.

Atlanta drafted Matthews a couple of years back.

Indy has Castonzo-though I still am not sold on him.

Buffalo is set with Cordy Glenn.

But Chicago arguably could continue to stock that 3-4 defense with Fox being a defensive guy, or they could take Ezekiel Elliott since Fox also favors a strong running game and they could use a runner to replace Matt Forte.  Meanwhile Detroit could seek to compensate for the loss of Calvin Johnson by adding another receiver in addition to Marvin Jones, and they could also use another DT to pair with Ngata from this strong DT class.

  Good analysis,  Bullseye.

I agree with you that the Bears could realistically go in any of the 3 directions you mentioned.   So much will probably depend on both their draft board in the 1st Round and how they see the next couple of rounds occurring.

Unless there's great value at # 16 at WR,   I would be at least somewhat surprised if the Lions draft a WR in that spot.   Two reasons for this opinion:

  1.   The FA investment in Marvin Jones.

  2.   Bob Quinn,  the Lions new GM,  comes from the Patriots organization that hasn't drafted a WR in the 1st Round in the Bill Belichick era,

I do believe though that from Round 2 or later,  WR will be seriously considered.

The 3 most likely positions the Lions will address in Round 1 are Offensive Tackle,  Defensive End,  and Defensive Tackle.   Getting at least one quality Offensive Line prospect is imperative.  Because Devin Taylor is scheduled to be a UFA in 2017,  DE has to be looked at.   Even with the Lions signing Bengals UFA DE Wallace Gilberry the other day,  the Lions only have 3 viable DEs on the current roster.   With most of the Lions DTs potential FAs in 2017,  DT is certainly a realistic possibility in Round 1.   That much more considering the value of the DT crop.   There's also a chance the Lions could draft a LB in Round 1.    How healthy DeAndre Levy is when he reports for the beginning of the team's off-season program on April 18 will go along way in determining how much a priority LB is.

One thing the Jets and any team looking for an Offensive Tackle in Round 1 need to consider is a team drafting at # 21 or later in Round 1 could trade up.

Before the D'Brickashaw Ferguson retirement news,   there's been speculation the Jets might trade up for a QB.   They also can use additional edge rusher help on Defense.   A big question with them is what's going to happen regarding DE Muhammad Wilkerson?     If the Jets trade Wilkerson,   they can address at least two of their areas they need help in.

I was kind of iffy on the Lions taking a WR.  Did not know about the GM coming over from the Pats.  Good info  about him, and changes the analysis.  DE would absolutely make sense there, even with Ansah.  In fact, to me, the more I think about it, a DE like Dodd would make much more sense there given the depth of the DT class.

As for the Jets, this Ferguson thing could go two ways.

First, the Jets could deal Wilkerson in an attempt to get a high pick to get the QB and replace Ferguson.

Or, with the extra cap space recouped by Ferguson's retirement, they could re-sign Wilkerson now.
The grade on Tunsil is far superior to any of those other players listed above. If Tunsil drops to 5, you better believe people will be calling.

Who do you think would call...at least who that would have a realistic shot a trading up to 5?

To me, after us, besides the teams from 11-20, I could see Baltimore definitely needing a LT, and they pick right below us, making it pointless for them to trade up.

Philly MIGHT be interested in Tunsil, but they have a still viable LT, and are probably more concerned with a QB right now.

SF still has Staley.  Tampa just drafted a guy in the 2nd round last year and he played well.   The Giants just drafted Ereck Flowers last year.

An additional DE possibility with the pick # 16 draft resource for the Lions is Kevin Dodd's teammate,  Shaq Lawson,  who had a pre-draft visit with the team.

Even with the cap saving,  I think the most likely outcome is the Jets trading M. Wilkerson and filling the two needs you mentioned.   With an edge rusher on Defense the other need they could try to fill if the value is there.    I wouldn't rule out CB either.   Darrelle Revis isn't getting any younger and Antonio Cromartie was a salary cap casualty.
D6,

As I think about it, I could conceivably see both Dodd and Lawson off the board by then.

But I still see Detroit having a lot of good options where you pick (16th IIRC).

No way Jags do that now. Maybe if the season were in progress, and Beachum was starting. That said, Joeckel for a combination of picks -- like 2nd and 5th -- right now would do the trick.
Best name in the NFL retires.
The Jets have traded for Ryan Clady. No one is trading for the Joker.
God Joeckel sucks

An interesting gamble by the Jets.

A worthwhile one, I think.

If Clady can regain his form, the Jets upgraded LT by investing a 5 & 7, even if he's a short term fix.

If not, then no really big loss.

But it still doesn't answer the questions the Jets are facing.

Do they now have the answer at LT?

What will they do at QB?

Will they trade Wilkerson?

Fitz will be back. Its the best place for him after the Broncos and it seems he priced himself out of that.
