Quote:Landing a nationally televised prime time game on NBC and not a cable network in week 3 of the preseason is actually an indication that the networks are starting to pay attention to the team. We've got some young stars on the rise, and a team that on paper appears to be poised to finally be turning the corner in this rebuild process. It's a good thing.

Agreed, so psyched for that game. Finally on NBC and on top of that, its the dress rehearsal for the regular season.
The "Del Rio returns to Jacksonville" angle will likely factor in too.

Jaguars 2016 preseason schedule features nationally-televised, prime-time Week 3 game against Cincinnati at EverBank Field; other opponents include New York Jets, Tampa Bay and Atlanta

Okay how many do you think the Jaguars will win if any?

I think Jaguars win Bengals prime time game... but maybe lose against Jets & Bucs - should win against Falcons.

I wouldn't say to try to lose but the first two games it should be solely about judging talent without risking hurting key important guys (like Julius Thomas, Blake Bortles, Allen Bros, Ivory, Gipson, Prince, House, etc).

Nice, week 3 is when the starters usually play the most
Week 4 NO ONE will play lol
Quote:The third preseason game at home against the Bengals will give us a real good feel for what to expect from this team against a quality opponent. The starters should be playing week into the third quarter. Hopefully we will be up to the task and show the nation there is a new kid on the block to be dealt with.

Hopefully this is the case.

As for Cincy, last preseason they played a nationally televised game against Tampa. Cincy looked absolutely dreadful,, Tampa looked very good.

Then, Cincy promptly started off at 6-0 in the regular season and looked terrific for the most part. Tampa? Uhhhh....

Preseason.
Quote:Eh, preseason is still preseason. Even in week 3 teams are still going through the motions. What I hope this is a sign of is more prime time games coming in the regular season.
Week 3 is the closest thing to a real game you're going to get in the preseason, and the ratings for past years indicates that people are tuning it regardless of whether it's preseason or not.  It's good exposure for a young franchise on the rise.
I am excited about this.

The Jets game will be the first game, so there is always excitement there.

The Bucs are the first home game, an instate rival, and it will look to be a brief battle pitting two of the good young QB prospects up against each other.

The Bengals will be a good test.  They have a balanced offense with some capable playmakers.  Defensively they are pretty strong, though they have lost a guy or two from their secondary.

The Atlanta game will be bottom end of the roster guys fighting for their jobs.

I'm already scoping out flights for the Cincy game...

I will want to see our defense against this team more than anything right now.

Can we pressure a good QB against a good OL?

Can we cover a TE?

Can we cover a stud WR?

Good questions.

However, I wouldn't expect to see much out of Cincy. They are historically bland, or downright dreadful in the preseason.
I love preseason. First chance to get to see all of the new draft picks and roster depth. I'm surprised anyone who loves a team enough to post on their message board in April would dismiss preseason.

I always figured the people who complain about preseason were those who were casual fans / bandwagon fans and couldn't name 8 players on their supposed team.

(This doesn't include STH and their legitimate gripe about having to pay for two preseason games. Different subject altogether.)
I'll be at the Jets game.

Preseason games are awesome to see all the young players.
Even as a STH I love the preseason games for reasons High Score suggested plus I get to drink standing behind the car, I get to see the characters from the tailgating lot, I get to overeat, and I get to sit in my Everbank seat again and complain to the guys next to me and sneak little bottles of whiskey or tequila out my socks and underwear the whole game. Good times.

Deacon- I got 2 in the front row of 409 if you need them.

To be honest I really hope the league in the near future reduce preseason tix to half off for STHers only.

I didn't mean to give an impression that I don't like, or completely dismiss the preseason. Of course I like watching football games, new players, etc.

The thing I DO dismiss about preseason is using the team's performance to indicate how things will be in the regular season. The Jags have looked good in the preseason the past few years. The regular seasons? Not so much.

All kinds of other franchises have looked dreadful in the preseason and gone on to look terrific during the season.

Teams don't get exotic with blitzing and play calling. Many of the entrenched players that are not fighting for roster spots aren't giving all intensity to the games. It's just bland, and not very indicative of what things will look like in real games. That's all. It doesn't mean I don't enjoy preseason, I do.

The main thing I root for in preseason is seeing all players remain healthy. A bad injury to a key player is the ONE thing that can completely derail a regular season. Seeing guys go down in preseason sux, to say the very least.

It will get huge ratings, so hopefully Jaguars look good in it.

Week 1 gets a lot of attention due to fans wanting to see the 1st overall pick play out..

I've always enjoyed watching PreSeason its the way a player like WR Allen Hurns can prove himself to play in week 1 when usually an UFA might not get that chance.

We saw HB Corey Grant burn the Redskins last year in that huge run, and other fun things over the years in Preseason...
