Evan Boehm C Missouri
6"2 310 31 5/8 Arms
Evan Boehm is one of my favorite prospects in this years draft. He is a 4 year starter for Missouri and holds the school record with 52 consecutive starts despite battling a high ankle sprain for the first few games.Missouri have put 11 olinemen into the NFL since 2009.Played on the South team in the Senior Bowl so our coaches had a good look at him.
Run Blocking
The thing that stands out the most watching Boehm is his brute strength at the point of attack.Able to drive interior rushers backwards with ease ,creating big holes to run through.Plays nasty making sure off balance defenders hit the ground as much as possible. Not the most athletic center but when pulling to the outside takes very efficient routes and hits with power when he makes contact. In 2013 helped Missouri have the 16th ranked rushing attack in the NCAA. Gus wants the center to get more push in the run game and that is Boehms best attribute.
Pass Blocking
As a 4 year starter ,Boehm has faced many talented pass rushers and different defenses.Very good at recognizing inside blitzs and adjusting protections based on what he sees in front of him. When he uses proper technique he can completely redirect an oncoming pass rusher with his punch and look to other rushers. Will get caught shifting left and right by quicker guys.Arms and height aren't ideal.Former high school wrestler with a good understanding of leverage but will rely too much on his strength allowing rushers too twist and turn him. Not the most technical guy but is quite smart which helps make up for it.Mostly snapped in shotgun which may worry some teams,
Leadership
Great competitor and a leader Missouri.Has an outgoing personality which belies his sheer toughness and determination. 2015 was an absolute disaster for Missouri with everything it had going on but he kept them together. Everything about Boehm screams 'Gus guy'. Gus wants a tough run blocking center for Bortles to grow with as the years go by and he could do far worse than Boehm.
If Ryan Kelly is gone by the 2nd round I could really see us picking Boehm in the 3rd or 4th.Would give us a really nasty run blocking trio with Cann and Linder. I think he fits our culture very well and could be a starter for years.
Here are some videos just to show you some of his play.
