Quote:I thought we were talking FGs... Try and keep up, Pirky.
Don't know what part of his statement about fixing his PATs is confusing you. Keep on trying, you'll get it eventually there, buddy!
Talk about keeping up... I should have known better than to sit with you at the children's table.
"Averaging" his FG percentage ranking and his XP percentage ranking, and he's still below the middle of the pack. But go on, continue polishing Myers' brass if you like.
He's nothing special, and likely never will be. Very replaceable. That can't be denied. But then...
Quote:Kickers are important but let's be honest, they get paid the least for a reason. Gano kicked in the SB for the panthers. Redskins let him go. Kickers are everywhere.
It's why he'll lose the job whenever they decide to bring in real competition.

Ok, let's recap...
Pirky: Average kicker wouldn't have lost at Indy
HolsterHusto: Myers made two clutch kicks that average kickers struggle with. He needs to work on his PATs though
Pirky: He missed PATs though! You're asinine!
Holsterhusto: Yeah, I know. I said he needs to work on his PATs.
Pirky: Asinine! Children's table! Mod smash! DAY RUINED!
Not sure how I am a Myers apologist. I said he's good enough at kicking FGs and needs to work on his PATs. Please show me where I have ever said I want Myers to be the kicker no matter what. I agree we shouldn't draft a kicker to replace him.
It's ok, you can quit punching your keyboard now...
Quote:So now kickers win and lose you games?
I'm shocked they don't make the same as QBs since they are such an important piece!
Kickers are important
We already have our QB.
The last phrase, came straight from your mouth....I just got rid of all the fluff you put afterwards.

That's a history rewrite, not a recap. Cute, though. Buh bye. Thanks for playing.

Remind me not to ever agree with you again lol

That's not what you did. But it's there in black and white for anyone to read on their own. Sometimes it's better just to not click the "Post" button. This will be my last time doing that in this thread. That's all to say on it, the rest I've posted speaks for itself.

Yes, we get it... You're mad about something. Stop the presses!
Most fans were upset with Punter Anger being drafted so high, but would everyone be upset if Roberto Aguayo, Florida State Kicker
was drafted in the 3rd round?
I would be shocked if he was still there in the 4th round because of how many teams were looking for a good kicker last season.

Lol it's pretty clear how I would feel if we drafted a kicker in the 3rd.
It also just doesn't seem like something Caldwell would do.
Honestly, the kid was fine on field goals (better than Scobee's rookie season), and needs work on the PATs for sure. they can fix that. you can't find some average kicker that has the leg to nail 58 yarders (2 game winners last year). They will bring in competition next year (UDFA, unless Dave finds one in the 7th he likes), but I expect Myers to be our kicker next year and going forward.

nope, nope, and nope. He was below average overall, even if he was better than Scooby's rookie season. Who died and made Scooby the bench mark, anyway? His misses were too often at clutch times... can you say, 'choke'? Mental issues are often not as easily dealt with as physical ones; just ask our former first round quarterback. And last but not least, if real competition is brought in it is highly unlikely that Myers will be the kicker going forward. You can have a great leg, or a great arm, but if you don't have the head to go with it, it's meaningless.

Without sounding like a "Myers apologist" here, what clutch kicks did he miss exactly? Outside of the Indy game I can't think of one...
The fact that we are pointing out kicking is a good sign thou. Because much of the other holes are being filled and we are starting to see a real change. Soon your saying theres a chance?
Jason Myers missed 4 field goals last year: 44 yarder vs. Carolina, we lost 20-9, 53 and 48 yarders vs. Indy, Lost in OT 16-13, 26 yarder vs. Bal, we won on Myers' 53 yarder that sealed the game. In my opinion, we were not going to win the Car game, I'd agree he cost us the Indy game, Made up for an early miss to hit game winner vs. Bal. Again I agree that his PATs were abysmal, but the kid has a leg with the 2 game winners against Mia and Bal. The only FG miss after week 4 was against Bal, and he made up for that one. DC is unlikely to spend any draft pick (and certainly not high) to address the kicking situation. btw, his stats were 26-30 on FG, 86.7%, good for 12th in the league.
Are we rolling with Myers? Oh, you have problems with that? Why would anybody possibly have an issue with that?
It's possible to want competition for Myers and also not want to draft a kicker.
I definitely want there to be competition for Myers. I just don't think drafting a kicker in any round is the answer. There are always kickers out there who can come in a do a serviceable job.

I just want to ask you a simple question.
How would you feel if we were in a home playoff game with Tom Brady and the New England Patriots, and Blake Bortles lit em up for 4 TDS and 338 yards passing. Yeldon racks up 150 on the ground. Fowler has 2.5 sacks and we have been grinding all game.
We come back from 21 points in the 2nd half...the score is 35 to 37 with New England leading. There is 4 seconds remaining after Billecek ices our kicker.
If we make this kick we go to the AFC Championship game and play for a Super Bowl bid.
On trots Jason Myers to kick a 33 yard Field Goal......
What are your thoughts at this moment?

The same as they would be with any kicker in the entire league. He better make that kick. I'd be extremely nervous.
Anderson for the Vikings ring a bell? How about Blair Walsh from this past year? Gostkowski missed an XP in the AFC championship game which basically resulted in them having to go for 2 and they lost. Cundiff missed a gimme which would have sent the Ravens to the SB one year.
You're missing the point. No one is claiming Myers is the savior at kicker but there is no reason to draft a kicker. Is Aguayo the greatest kicker alive who has never missed a single kick in his life? No. Has he missed FGs which could have led his team to some wins? Most likely. We can bring in competition at the kicker position but it shouldn't be through the draft.
And I'll answer you this, what if we do dump Myers and draft Aguayo. And then Aguayo has a bad year and Myers is picked up and has a great year? We can play the what if game all day long. But at the end of the day, they are kickers. They most likely won't determine if you are going to win a SB or not. They play a role but its the offense and defense that will lead us to the promise land.
