I still have a blockbuster badge from a brief 2 week stint back in 2006. As an employee you could get all the dvds before they were released and watch them for free. They were trying to push a monthly fee when I left. Netflix was killing them at that point with thier luxury 'dvd mailed to your house." People think redbox killed blockbuster, and it did kill blockbuster kiosks, but netflix is what actually did the stores in. Great times. There was one random store in Orlando that stayed open till like 2012, not sure how that worked.
Lol, anyone remember releazing you had dropped the dvd off at the wrong store. I actually got a collections call from blockbuster about that years ago, they wanted like 30 dollars for some dvd. Dont remember if I paid or if they went broke first.
I think that didn't help BlockBuster trying to send people to collections over less than 25 dollars....
Customer Service is important

True. Redbox got that part right atleast and they just let you keep it if your late fees are equal to the value of the DVD bluray or game.

The movie/game industry value. Certainly not mine. I've gotten robbed on many games and movies I bought just for them to turn out to be horrible. Haha
Yea they will never experience a Beta Max. Fun times.
Went to a blockbuster once, smelled of mildew and the movies were all sticky

The cost to the retailers for their copy was more like $45.
The distributors charged more to rental businesses than they did consumers for a single copy.
So, Blockbuster (and any other rental business, including mom and pop rental shops) had to pay 25% or more for the same DVD/VHS/Beta/VideoDisc the consumer would pay for, solely because they were a rental business.
This is/was the corruption in the media "distribution" business... the motion picture business as well as music, and others.
The "label" tried/tries to take as much as they could/can from the actual artists.

We're you in the adult section?
Blockbuster was my first job out of high school worked from a CSA(cashier) all the way to store manager, I saw the writing on the wall and got out in 06. Was my favorite job tons of fun but certainly not something I could raise a family on even as a store manager. I look back it was after that job I had about 3 years of different jobs before I ended up in automotive. I worked for Walgreen's as a manager, tried my hand at applience sales, did some construction work, ran a door to door sales office, and then finally found my niche in automotive.
My younger sister returned a movie or something late to them years ago. Had a 6 dollar late fee or something on it. They went so far as to have collection agencies try to get the money. There was one small problem though. My sister was about 12 at the time. It was good for a laugh.
IMO you shouldn't be able to put somebody in Collections for less than a 100 dollars. It just seems petty.

Long nights in Alaska in winter.

My neighbor as a child would argue that Beta was the best and will last the longest for years even when Video stores like BlockBuster didn't have them.
Talk about stubborn, even if Beta was better its about production/volume/ supply and demand.

Poor Eskimos are all in collections.
