So, according to PFT, Wilkerson's agent has put out there that Wilkerson will be ready for the regular season. He's been tagged as a non-exclusive rights FA this season by the Jets. Given our recent issues signing a pass rusher, what are are your thoughts on trading a mid-round pick for this guy?

Work out a long-term deal, kinda like Beachum. One year guaranteed with incentives built in, with an option that escalates. Thoughts?

Just a slight problem here and that is that Wilkerson was slapped with the Franchise Tag by the Jets and thus to sign him, the Jets would get 2 - Rd 1 selections. The Jets could take less than 2 Rd 1 selections, but why would they take a mid round pick in lieu of a package worth a bit more than a mid round selection.

Yes! Four years 70 million.

I'm thinking at least a 2016 third and a 2017 third round at the minimum.
Naw i wouldnt. At some point you have to use your draft picks to get your own guys like Caldwell has done up to date. Draft and develop. Use FA to supplement the roster.

I don't disagree with that. Wilkerson has had some success, though. 12 sacks last season, on a decent defense, and only 26 years old. I'm not sure I'd give up two 3rd's, but if he was offered at the right price, I'd be hard pressed not to pull the trigger whole DFJ gets up to speed.
The Jets are going to want more than a couple of third rounders for him, and he's going to want more money than we just gave to Jackson because, let's be honest, he's a better player.

In theory, yes, bring him in. In reality, cap dollars (and real dollars) only stretch so far, and high draft picks have a better chance of returning value than a $90M contract handed to a defensive tackle would.

Trade picks and pay top $$$ to a guy to do the same thing we just paid a guy $80m to do?

I'll pass.
Wilkerson, while a talented player, is very similar to Jackson. I wouldn't want to give away draft picks that can be used to help fix our defense for a guy that will split time with Jackson/Marks. I would love to have that trio but the timing is not right for this franchise.

Wilkerson=MaliK Jackson. Although more talented.
I'm not a big fan of throwing around draft picks and big contracts at a position we just addressed.

He might be better than Jackson, but we need to use the draft picks to get better at positions with a lot more room for improvement.
