Full Version: Have The Jags Filled Enough Holes Through FA To Do This?

Trade a pick this year for a better pick next year. Let's say the Browns offer next year's second for this years third, as an example. Is this team stable enough to pull the trigger on a deal like that. This team is getting to a point where there are only so many roster spots to fill. Would they do it? Does the win now directive influence that. It is an interesting thing to ponder.

Yes, #1 overall pick and the Jags another top 5 pick, chhhhammmmppiiooonshhhipppp
If the deal makes sense and there isn't a guy available they like with the pick in question then sure.
Id say next draft they can. Still lots of depth holes to fill this year. And not many passrushers or center.
I'd do it, but I think it's dependent on two things:

1. Players you really like or will be useful right away, i.e. starting interior lineman, aren't sitting there.

2. It has to be a team like Cleveland, not New England or Arizona.

The Jags have 8 selections in the draft. They have an extra 6th rounder from the Steelers for Scobee.

Do they have 8 slots to fill? If they can parlay lower round picks to better future picks, it would be a great move IMO. Reason being that 2-4 years from now, many of the free agents from last year and this year will be considered for release for either performance and or cost. Having future picks to replace those guys then makes some sense, especially if the late rounders won't make the team.

I honestly would try to package what I could if was Dave to get another 3rd or 4th round pick. Cause heard numorous times 1-4 so much talent this draft could be starters.
I'd have to know the depth of the draft classes.

If next year was a 2014 draft then yes. If it's a 2013 draft then hell no.
I'd almost always take a deal like that, but Gus is on the hot seat. Dave might be, too. I don't see them giving away early or mid round picks this year for a pick a round higher next year. That second-rounder we get for giving up our three won't do the current staff any good if it's a new bunch using it.

It depends how the first 2 rounds go.  The Jags still need another interior lineman and if they get Ryan Kelly in the 2nd round, then yeah, they can punt this year's 3rd round pick.

This works brilliantly in Madden.

^this.  Also, the first 4 rounds, especially since they are high in the draft order, are strong this year for starters and/or strong depth.  As much as FA is improving the roster, I don't think they delay a pick.  However, I do envision Dave using the later round picks to move up some spots with his earlier picks to target some players.
