Quote:Well we did have the worst defense in the history of this franchise and league for that matter. Ask Drew Brees how hard it is to overcome a historically bad defense Which he had to do last year as well.
Brees and the Saints would have won our division last year.....
In case you've forgotten the Saints lost to the Titans, the Texans and barely beat the Colts. Bad as well last year and like that Team we have a lot of upside unless you think Blake Bortles is bad too.
Honestly didn't expect to be as high as 17th. Not saying I expect to be worse than that at the end of the year, but I just assumed a mid-twenties ranking because... we'll I've come to expect it in looking at power rankings.

Obviously they don't factor coaching into these rankings.

Now don't you be trying to hop on the Gus bus next February when we fill up the tank and head to Houston for Super Bowl LI
I think doing a hypothetical power rankings without a single game being played is foolish. As much as things change in the NFL there is more that stays the same. The Jaguars are a bottom feeder team until they prove otherwise and that's the neutral perspective. If we aren't in the bottom 5 or 10 at least I think it's just someone who wants to drink the kool aid.

Quote:We have a top 5 QB,THE #1 Reciever, THE #1 Recieving DUO, 2 Great HBs, 2 unique TE's and a slightly above average o line. Not very many offenses can say that. Our D will improve tremendously with our new DC and our new talents. If we aren't a playoff team or at least a .500 team. I consider it a HUGE disappointment.
..."If we aren't a playoff team or at least a .500 team, I consider it a huge disappointment."

Well, be ready to be disappointed. We have one proven half back, and one who was 'okay' last season. We have one good TE. Our o-line was not very good; we couldn't hardly run the ball and BB2 threw a lot of int's due to pressure. You do not know if our defense will be substantially better or not dude. Your optimism seems to be based on a lot of unfounded speculation about how much this team will be improved. Hopefully, it will be improved; but we don't know yet how much.

Oh come on negative nancy, nobody is saying we are Super Bowl favorites, but there is no way you can't believe this roster isn't better than last season at this time. This team should at least be 8-8, if not I'd expect a cleaning of the house.
WoW really 8-8 is the expectations of a team in its 4th year of GM & HC after three seasons of only .250% winning?

Sigh

Ok, then I expect 14-2 and a Superbowl appearance.  Don't worry, I won't expect a win though.  Tongue
My expectations this season are far higher than they've been in years, but at the same time this is one of the toughest schedule they've had to face in years. On the bright side, tough schedules can help prepare teams to do well in the playoffs. The Jaguars exceedingly easy '99 schedule didn't do them any favors when it came down to the AFCC.

Well okay, if you insist. I do think that there is a good possibility that the team could be better this season given another year of experience, the acquisition of some decent f/a's, and (hopefully) some good draft picks. Just remember though; the other 31 teams are also endeavoring to improve.

We have not yet proven that we are a legitimate playoff caliber team though. We were defeated too, too, easily last season by the tinhorns in the worst division in the NFL. The same team that defeated us so handily then went on to be absolutely humiliated in the first playoff game. This all goes to demonstrate just how bad the Jags really have been. So far, we've done little to substantially improve our offensive line which in both of those games were our 'Achilles tendon'... not to mention a defense that couldn't stop an anemic tinhorn offense.

'Negative Nancy' huh? I'd prefer that to being a 'dopey Darcy' which is my term of endearment for those who are optimistic before they have demonstrated reason to be. So uh...Darcy, I do like your pre-season optimism; it's quite charming.

You know, not being optimistic that they'll improve...until they prove they're better...kind of defeats the point of being optimistic.
Quote:17 seems to be correct at this point and I doubt the draft will change that.  I have the Jaguars finishing 9-7 right now which would put them higher than 17 but at this point we have to wait to see how the Free Agents perform and the players coming back from injury such as Fowler.  I think their offense will improve and the defense will be much better but I have my doubts about Caldwell as the coach and their schedule will not be as easy as it was last season.
I have my doubts about Caldwell as the coach too!

Finally!!!! SOMEONE I CAN RELATE TOO!!!!

OH WAIT....Gus Bradley is the coach???
That's not too shabby man. It's a good sign of how we're being viewed now nationally. I am excited about this offense and this year. I hope we're on the up & up as a team and city. It's been too long since we've had so much buzz. Just get that defense going. If we can go at least 8 - 8 this year I'd be satisfied as a fan. And I'd be okay with Bradley keeping his job. Along with Caldwell. But it would be nice to see some Sunday night games or Monday night games thrown our way in 2017.
