I just want someone in there soon NOW to groom.  I agree Poz isn't in his prime and isn't getting "better."  But I also don't see us in the position to draft anyone who is a plug and play replacement.

Mine tell me a completely different story than yours.

I see said the blind man but he could not see at all.

Regardless I hope Poz stays a Jaguar for as long as he can.Great leader and competitor.
My biggest gripe is his liability in pass coverage. This is a big issue as to why we are so bad on 3rd down.

I think they are doing that with Tripp.

Me too.  His struggles in coverage are a problem.  Though he would be helped if we could rush the passer a bit more consistently.

That's a legitimate gripe, but my biggest gripe is that when he gets injured, there is no one to replace him, and I mean literally no one.   I remember the first time he went out with an injury last year, and the substitute was that undrafted rookie, and it was like we were playing with 10 guys on defense.  They just ran right through us.
Quote:Because in reality he is not nearly the liability that the amateur evaluators on this board try to make him out to be.
or maybe the 'amateur evaluators' on this board just don't have the 'man crush' on him that some seem to...

Very big problem, I'm sure this will get address, soon... Probably in the draft...

That would be nice, but if the TE is open, that's usually a quick enough pass to avoid the rush.

That's why I'm thinking linebacker is the missing link in all this.   We can get some more pass rushers, and rush the passer better, and that will take away some of the time WRs  have to get open, and we can get some better DBs, and cover better on the back end, and that will give the pass rush more time to get to the QB, but if we don't cover the TE and the running backs, the QB will be able to get the ball off before the pass rush gets there.   We can have a better pass rush and better CBs and safeties, but the opposing offense can still dink and dunk their way down the field if we don't cover the TE and RB.

That's a great point, Marty.

It's yet another reason why I support Myles Jack becoming a Jaguar.
I also see the advantage of taking Jack at 5.

As pointed out, it does not always take an Edge DE to cause mayhem, when that pocket implodes there are no seats left on the life boat for the QB.

With defenses having to scheme for Malik, some one else is going to get loose or inside.

Lord help you if Sen or Tyson get a paw on you.......can you say ragdoll.

HeadSlap

I'd be happy with Jack with the 5th pick if Bosa and Ramsey are off the board. I think we can go back and look at DE again in RD2 - RD3 and get a guy like Nassib from Penn State or Calhoun from Michigan State. This year's class of pass rushers is actually pretty deep. We could get a quality starting DE on day two for sure if Caldwell feels the value is there.

I'm not disagreeing with you here, but Diamond Dave is. He's on record as saying that a big reason why the team drafted Fowler last season was because he was none too thrilled about the '16 class of pass rushers.

Poz makes a lot of tackles.........but they are usually 7 yards down field.
