Actually anyone that expects any player that's had such an injury as Fowler's while expecting him to perform at an extremely high level within the first year surpassed the injury is an fool...See Senderick Marks. How long did it take him to get back into the saddle?

You're a fool if you think he's going to come out of the gate racking up sacks a year removed from an ACL injury, but hey, feel free to set the expectations high so that you can tell us he's a bust when he doesn't meet them in what is basically his rookie year.
Because that's what I said, right FBT? You're a joke.
----> I was here when it all began.
Not to take away from the epic battle that is about to take place; I think Fowler is about to get a rookie pass-rushing counterpart to help alleviate some of that pressure. At least I hope so anyway.
As a rookie, I wouldn't have expected much from Fowler. I won't be calling him a bust if he isn't fantastic this season, but I expect and hope for more than I would if he was truly a rookie.

I think he will be solid just because of his supporting cast around him(if they all stay healthy).

also depends on the person... AP made a hell of a bounce back from destroying his knee.
I believe the only pressure to Fowler will be applied by himself... I believe he will put pressure on his self to be great.. And i hope he accomplish that mission without injuries..

He's the exception, not the rule. You can't use him as the bar for other players.
Quote:Because that's what I said, right FBT? You're a joke.
You think he's going to be under some sort of mystery pressure to put up stats, and I say you're a fool if you believe that because he's basically a rookie, and he's coming off an ACL injury. The biggest pressure he's going to be dealing with is just getting back on the field and getting in football shape. If I'm a joke for expecting more modest production because of the reality of his situation, so be it. I'm really devastated that you of all people would think I'm a joke. Really, I am.

This is true as well as being one in a million sort of speaking. AP is simply a freak of nature plus he and Fowler play different positions. Fowler has to fight in the trenches applying more pressure/strain on his knee. AP applies similar pressure w/respect to cutting and changing directions but overal not as much.
Good point though...

He needs to be a 8-10 sack guy for this defense to take off, is it a lofty goal sure, but I think he's up to it if they let him loose.
This entire thread's premise is a joke. The pressure is on EVERYBODY in the NFL to perform. If you perform, you stick around. If not, you're gone. The NFL stands for Not For Long.
Fowler will be given time to come back after his injury and expectations will be tempered. Beyond this year, he'll be under the same scrutiny every player, coach, GM, popcorn vendor or anybody else is under. The NFL is the ultimate game of survival of the fittest.
Watching Fowler at UF, dude is nasty and vicious and he brings the heat. As far as his injury goes, senderick tore his acl like 4 months before fowler and came back. Fowler had the whole season to heal up and will have training camp and preseason to get his feet under him. I think he'll be productive for us via pressure. He'll get sacks but he'll help the others get sacks by applying pressure. 2017 he should know how to close the deal.
All that said, im forever optimistic. I have faith in my team. Id have more faith if we go DE in the 2nd round.

It's what clowns like him do. It's all clowns like him do.
I think 5-7 sacks is probably a fair expectation for fowler

Expectations will be tempered by who? You're crazy if you don't think fans aren't gonna be disturbed if Fowler is given the role as our premiere rusher and fails to produce. Coming back from an ACL or not, if the organization is counting on him to be "the guy" at LEO because we didn't get Vernon or whoever then the fingers will be pointed at him whether it be for praise or failure. It's just how it is. People will see him as the starter, the 3rd overall pick and the word "bust" will get thrown around ad-nauseum if he's not the animal they're hoping for.
That said, I remain optimistic our pass rush will be fine.

Completely agree. Work him is as the gravy, before he becomes the meat and potatoes.
I think 4-6 sacks is reasonable considering the circumstances. Mack finished his rookie season with 4.5 and wasn't coming off an ACL. As long as he's getting QB pressures and affecting the QB then I'm perfectly fine with that number.
Wrecking oneself on the first day in shorts adds up to bust imo.. But of course we all hope for the best this year.
Fowler should TEACH a course in how not to injure oneself to every incoming player for the next FIVE years.. Players simply are not used to the heat in Jax, and don't understand that the climate adjustment can lead to injury very easily.. It's a subtle and devious problem.
We absolutely should have a 'course' designed to help these young 'invincibles' better adapt slowly over time, rather than run out there and blow their 'hammys and knees' in the Spring every year. YES, every year!!
Does he even have a jersey number yet?? lol (maybe it's on his gymshorts)
Seriously, I want the guy to succeed, and it would be nice if these incoming players actually play..
