But back to us, my "disappointment" is admittedly borne of greed for my Jaguars.

I'm not going TMD over this FA period.

We added some good players. Just not as many as I hoped.

We can still add more that can help.

Free agency isn't a day long event. There are still plenty of pieces to secure, and the Jaguars have done awfully well so far. They missed out on one guy who ended up getting the 2nd biggest contract EVER given to a defensive player in the history of the league. They weren't as interested in Irvin as some speculated. I'm sure the whimpering chihuahua is in full meltdown mode over every move the team has made. Don't be that guy. The Jaguars had a good day.
I'm not being that guy.

To reframe...remember when we blew out the Colts last year? I expressed disappointment that, after we hit fifty, we didn't try an on sides kick.

My disappointment in not landing Williams or Vernon is a little higher than that, but certainly not at the level of the loss in the AFCCG in 99.

I'm not calling for anyone's head.

I'm not planning a trip to the Wells Fargo building.

I'm not saying FA is over.

I'm not saying we failed to improve the team.
I'm pretty thrilled with things.

I really wish I could go back and reread the original Modis Bulding thread.

Man, that was good, good stuff.

You didn't just have the dive bomb and slide down the building aspect, you had the hotdog stand part as well.
Quote:We were strong at DT? Maybe in run stoppage but none of them could rush the passer a lick. Jackson was one of if not the top interior pass rushing DLineman last year. You should look at him like our Michael Bennett, he is a great scheme fit.

I agree.

I also think people are understimating Ivory, he is pretty good and could easily be a starter in a lot of teams.
Quote:You're not going to land every guy you target in free agency, especially on the first day. The fact that the Jags secured the level of talent they did during the first 3 hours is a boost of confidence to anyone supporting this team. The team absolutely got better today, and they still have plenty of money to work with to continue adding to the roster, and a draft full of opportunities. This is going to be a good off season for the Jags.
fans like this are why the front office is safe. We got a 3 technique and a free safety coming off a bad year as well as a punter. We were sold on this free agency class making a splash. I was here when you sold us on Laurent Robinson as well as any other bum the team signed
Quote:Jackson #1 FA

Gibson #2 Safety FA

Ivory 1,000 rusher Pro Bowler

Fowler #3 pick in the draft (first year)

????? #5 pick which will be defense

Are you guys on drugs? Seriously?

Of course we are extremely better.

Yes, we are better. We would have been extremely better if we had landed Olivier Vernon. That guy got paid though and you can't blame him for picking NYC over Jacksonville. That said, we do have a lot to look forward to. And FA isn't over. There are a couple guys out there still. Plus, you know, rounds 2-7 in the draft.

the players that help teams have been picked over already. We suck and players know ir
The bigger news in Jacksonville was that the team failed to sign Dolphins defensive end Olivier Vernon or Seahawks guard J.R. Sweezy. Vernon landed with the New York Giants, and Sweezy agreed to terms with the Buccaneers

You want to improve the team, and have the most cap space.... but you don't want to waste money either by over paying way too much...

I think GM Dave Caldwell did good overall...

Look last year the Jaguars signed the best available free agent (according to the NFL.com) with TE J. Thomas and yet again they signed the best Free Agent (again according to NFL.com) in DL

 Malik Jackson!

Tashaun Gipson Free Safety was another great move!

RB Chris Ivory (ProBowl RB) meet another need.

Quote:I sure hope that money's well spent. I think Ramsey would be better than Gipson, and Jackson was a huge wad of cash blown on a position that didn't need it. I'd have put that money towards Vernon and let the Giants have Jackson, honestly, because we still have some serious pass rush issues and our new free safety lacks range.

Just continuously turning on the set to "The Jaguars" in all the headlines was money well spent in itself. Im, like seeing, a great broad scope here.
If the Jaguars aren't going to sign Vernon or Jalen with the 5th overall pick, I would like to see a great Cornerback signed in Free Agency...

Ramsey has lack of ints in college.

Modis Building thread? I'm probably a few years late, but I'm sure that must have been one funny thread.

I thought Vernon was overrated. I'm glad the Giants outbid us.

I'm disappointed that the Jags didn't sign Mario Williams, especially since he "only" got slightly more than half of what Jackson gets. We needed a pass rusher more than another DT (assuming Marks will rebound in his 2nd season back from the ACL injury like Atkins did). I thought Williams was the only legit DE in this year's free agency crop.

Gipson was a good signing. Ivory was a significant overpayment for a rotational RB, but does fill a need. The punter is essentially the same as Anger, so meh.

We missed out on Mack. Who plays center, Bowanko? If the Jags move Cann or Linder to center then who plays guard? I don't think the Jags should rely on such a move working out.

The best news of the day was Houston overpaying for a journeyman QB. Osweiler isn't even as good as Hoyer, and at that price the tinhorns are stuck starting him.

Gipson lacks range?

Dude is one of the top players in interceptions since he got in the NFL

14 ints - 324 yards -2 tds

Thats what you call a playmaker
Agreed Gibson was the best move so far, Jackson got the most attention but Gibson was a bigger need & improvement to this really weak DB defense... It immediately improves with his signing.

Where did we get our 2 best lineman from...the draft, no?

Yeah, I think we can get a solid LG or C in the draft worst comes to worst. Beats the hell out of overpaying JR Sweezy 32M over 5 years like the Bucs are doing. Aka Beadles 2.0.

At this point after all the good players are picked you overpay for leftovers. We have the market cornered in that area. We have more players that nobody wants than anyone in the league
Quote:A little more talented, but part of the problem with Jackson is that the Jaguars already were pretty good at DT, seems kind of a pointless signing.

The Jaguars will need to get a lot out of the draft class and Dante Fowler or they could end up as 2016's version of the 2015 Dolphins.

I think that's basically the only thing that makes this FA "luke warm". Our two "front line" signings were in two positions we really didn't *have* to upgrade. Yeah, Jackson improves our DL. But by how much?

And Ivory is better than Yeldon, but again how much? Especially with our interior OL still a question mark.

In my mind, we had three *must have* needs this off-season: DE #1, FS #2, Interior OL #3.

We addressed one of them with Gipson.

In fact, I would put LB as #4 ahead of DT and RB. So we basically spent two of our major top dollar contracts on what is essentially our 5th and 6th positional need.
Prince ? Casye Hayward ? Robert Ayers ? Evan Mathis ?
