Shefter tweeted that Irvin is signing with the Raiders tomorrow. It felt like his social media antics were a little over the top recently. I guess that's exactly what he was going for. Hope nobody got their hopes up too high for us landing him.

I considered it a done deal with us for some reason. Can't wait to play the Raiders this year.

It was a little classless on his part. But if it caused the Raiders to up their offer and over pay, it's fine in the end.

I wouldn't call someone classless if we don't know the whole story.

I believe he wanted to be a jag, however according to Twitter, jags never viewed him as a top candidate.

He likely was originally happy with what the jags offered him and he was going to sign, then the raiders reached out and offered him an amount that Dave wasn't cool with matching.


Raiders supposedly had interest in Malik jackson, might not be thrilled the jaguars outbid them and repaid the favor.

Why would Bruce Irvin risk landing his supposed new team in hot water with the league by insinuating that he had already reached an agreement outside of the legal negotiation period? What could he gain from that? It could have just been over exuberance on his part, but you gotta believe that Dave and Bruce's agent would have strongly advised him not to shine a light on what is essentially tampering. Seeing as how he gained a better contract from the Raiders than what the Jags supposedly offered, it seems more likely that it was an intentional ploy to increase bidding for his services rather than just his exuberance about signing with Jacksonville.


It does seem as though the Jags and Raiders may develop a rivalry for multiple reasons, especially if they both turn into perennial playoff teams over the next few years. Both teams appear to be on the right track.
