If they remove it and another team signs him (they're going to lose Vernon regardless), they'll get draft pick compensation. It's a no brainer.

True, but this is the Dolphins we're talking about here.

Hahaha so true
Most likely a 3rd round compensation wouldn't it be?

I think so
They'll need the extra pick for the inevitable roster purge and house cleaning that will occur in the next 2 years.
That team is being run into the ground.......

It will be even be more ugly than 4 years ago here. FireSale on southbeach
Yeah, it doesn't really make any sense when they won't be able to match.  Transition tag is useful only in certain situations.  Browns used it perfectly with Mack as they allowed the market to set the price when they knew they could match most all offers.  Dolphins are going to get outbid and lose out on a pick.

I hope they don't remove it.   Right now, there are a lot of teams that will not make him an offer, because they don't want to wait a week to find out if the Dolphins match.    We don't have any such worry because we have so much cap space, making an offer to him won't stop us from making an offer to someone else.   We can wait a week and still go hard after other players in the meantime.
Being reported that they are in fact trying to remove it.

Hahahaha hahahahaha.

That's not good for us.   That will bring a lot more teams into the picture.

Completely disagree. Just means we can get the deal done sooner. Access by everyone didn't hinder us from getting Jackson. Having a strong interior guy next to him may entice Vernon even more now.
Yeah I kinda disagree as well. I see your point in being able to sign other players but the tag ties up being able to sign a player at the position of greatest need for a week. I don't see them going after contingency DEs while waiting on Mia. That's a monkey wrench I think is best avoided.

Besides the half dozen teams it will come down to will have sizable cap room as well.

This may be why they went after him like they. I mean he is a great player but now other edge rushers know they will get 1 on 1 now. Payment and easy production may be the pitch to Irvin and Vernon now.

Probably trying to remove it because they just signed Mario Williams. They probably have no plans to match an offer sheet now.

They're trying to remove it so when he's signed away they get compensatory considerations.

I just think it's funny because it makes them look like goofballs.
I really hope they remove it, then we don't have to wait to get him signed.

I don't think they look like goofballs. They put it on him to keep him. Knowing it was a long shot they reconstructed a couple contracts and released a player in hopes of possibly matching. Signing Williams nips it in the bud. No need for Vernon now. Might as well get the draft pick.
