If we offer him a contract Miami will have one week to match right? If they match does that leave us with nothing since all the big dogs will be gone the 9th.

Don't forget that Vernon has to accept the offer as well. Not as simple as tossing a contract out there...

Unless they rework a lot of contracts, there's almost no way they could match an offer we throw out to Vernon.

They have ways to match a potential offer, although it would likely be mortgaging their future (ie. turn a big portion of Suh's 23.4m base salary to bonus).  They can also cut Wake and save a good chunk (he's 34 and will be coming back from a torn achilles).  It would be very painful for them.  

The way I see it, Miami knows they are most likely losing him. Transition tag simply gives them a small chance of retaining him. It's a no brainer from their standpoint

So we sign a 2nd tier DE on the 9th then go and offer Vernon and pray?



I guess we could go 1st round draft DE if Miami matches. Next week is going to be fun

If  Miami matches the offer   - DE in the first round certainly becomes more likely for the Jags.
