Quote:Do we need to temper expectations? FA so far has been underwhelming in terms of how much and how many we payYes.
All these folks listing three, four and five FA signings that will be paid near the top of the league at their positions are in for disappointment.
Think one or two of those guys plus 3 or 4 mid-tier players.

Quote:List the FA and draft acquisitions that would make this offseason great for you.
Free Agents:
Olivier Vernon DE
Malik Jackson DE/DT
Bruce Irvin OLB/DE
Sean Smith CB
Kelechi Osemele OG
Draft:
5. Jalen Ramsey DB
38. Jonathan Bullard DE/DT
69. Austin Johnson NT
100. Jonathan Williams RB
154. Sean Davis CB
That's pretty good. I like that.
The way I would put it is, I'd like 3 high quality players in free agency, including 1 offensive guard and at least one pass rusher. That would free up our draft to do whatever we want.
so, for example:
Free Agency:
Eric Weddle
Olivier Vernon
Kelechi Osemele
Draft:
Round 1) Myles Jack
Round 2) Best Defensive Player Available
But really, there are so many combinations of free agents and draft picks that could make this a dream offseason.

Agreed, it is very optimistic to think we will haul Vernon, Jackson, Irvin, Gipson, S.Smith, Osemele, etc.
If Jax can pull off a FA class centered around Olivier Vernon, Tashaun Gipson, and Jeff Allen I would be thrilled.
I prefer Vernon to Jackson because we need edge rushers and this is a very deep draft class at DT. I truly believe Vernon could be had and he would probably be happy to stay in FLA. John Idzik was hired specifically for cap-related issues, let's seem him earn his paycheck and form a contract Miami can't match. I also think Jackson will end up going to Oakland or Chicago to reunite with one of his old coaches.
Dave and Gus have talked about how important the FS position is and last year it was reported we were sniffing around Tashaun Gipson. We bring him to be the centerfielder that we have been lacking since Gus got here.
Jeff Allen is a young, talented G that could play almost any position on the line. This also allows Cann or Linder to move to C, which has been hinted heavily by Bradwell.
Still also think Bruce Irvin will end up in Atlanta, but my plan B would be to take a shot on Zach Brown. He has all the tools and then some to play the OTTO spot or MLB.
In short my realistic FA class would be:
Olivier Vernon
Tashaun Gipson
Jeff Allen
Zach Brown
Then come draft we could either draft Jalen Ramsey (as a CB) or Myles Jack in the 1st round, get one of the stud interior guys in the 2nd, and then Jaylon Smith to redshirt (if we draft Ramsey) or a secondary guy (if we go Myles Jack).
Our D would then look like:
LEO - Vernon, Fowler, Davis, McCalister
DT - Marks/2nd rounder, Bennett
NT - Miller, Jones
DE - Odrik, Alualu
WLB - Smith, Tripp
MLB - Poz, J.Smith/M.Jack
SLB - Brown, Skuta
CB - House, Colvin (NB), McCray
FS - Gipson, Evans
SS - Cyp/Sample
CB - Ramsey/3rd, Marshall

In addition to that, there are other teams out there with money too who wouldn't mind a top tier FA. Oakland/Falcons. They're not going to sit on their hands waiting for the Jaguars to pluck the FA tree clean and then go to work. There will be competition for these guys.

True. But the thread is about your "ideal" offseason. Not your 100% realistic one

Indeed. You are correct. But it does seem that some folks here are implying that they "expect" Caldwell to sign any of these guys willing to take his money. So I chimed in on that notion.
In an ideal offseason - Let's go ahead and throw in Justin Blackmon being reinstated and hiring Tony Robbins to be his 24/7, live-in, life-coach to keep him in line. :teehee:

Free Agency (realistically ideal):
OG Jeff Allen 6'4 310 26- former versatile 2nd rounder, release Beadles, allows Linder or Cann to slide to center.
TE Ladarius Green 6'6 240 25- good blocker and speed, has been trapped behind Gates, let Lewis and Harbor go.
DE Olivier Vernon 6'2 260 25- young proven pass rusher to pair with Fowler.
FS Tashaun Gipson 5'11 205 25- young ball hawk free safety, 2014 pro bowl and 2x AFC interceptions leader.
P Bryan Anger 6'3 205 27- assuming he can be signed reasonably for performance to date.
Draft:
1. LB Myles Jack 6'1 235- impact LB to increase speed and likely take over OTTO role.
2. CB William Jackson 6'1 185- great film and measured well at combine to confirm tape.
3. DT Kenny Clark 6'3 310- value, drops due to number of good DTs in draft.
4. DE Bronson Kaufusi 6'7 281- poor man's Bosa for the rotation.
5. LB Eric Striker 5'11 230- depth and special teams.
6a. RB Jonathan Williams 5'11 220- productive solid back drops due to foot surgery.
6b. and 7. Developmental OL and CB

Quote:Free Agents:I'll cut my FA's down to...
Olivier Vernon
Janoris Jenkins (Johnson likely tagged)
Kelechi Osemele
Danny Trevathan
Reggie Nelson
Draft:
Ramsey/Bosa/Jack (Ramsey likely gone imo)
Jaylon Smith (trade up, I can live w/him missing 2016) I wouldn't mind Derrick Henry either
Sebastian Tretola (if Osemele isn't signed)
- Vernon
- Jenkins
- Nelson

Mario williams
Sean Smith
Jack/Hargreaves
Vernon Butler/Darian Thompson/Ryan Kelly
Javon Hargrave
Without sean smith then you can lean more hargreaves, but if you have him im assuming jack would be the guy if Ramsey/Bosa isnt there.
