Hear me out first it does make sense.
My initial thought was staying put. And just pick the best player. However after watching the combine and tape on tons of defenders coming out this year. This is the perfect draft for us to trade back.
Having an Elite player like Ramsey, Jack, or Bosa sounds great. However Alexander, Spence, and tons of others. Are not bad choices either. I tend to agree based on game film and performances that this could be the year. To get quality starting Defenders in rounds 1-4 and trading back would not really hurt us. And give us more potential to win games sooner then later. As long as what we get in return is still within top 3-4 rounds.
Now I am not saying trade out of 1st round or anything. Just the idea if teams had good value for us would be smarter in the long run to do. Discuss?
Every draft is the perfect draft to trade back in when you have a multitude of needs. The problem is the lack of elite talent at the top to entice someone to trade with you.

I was thinking that the Saints might want us to swap our 1st or 2nd round pick with them; in exchange for us getting a guy like Cameron Jordan. We could get an all pro defensive end like Jordan and still have enough picks in the later rounds to supplement our defense. I think if given a choice, it would be too much of a bargain for Caldwell to resist.
I'd loveeeeee to trade back. Maybe get an extra first/early second round pick.
Like what if traded back and acquired a late first as well as a middle of first round pick. Imagine selecting someone like Lawson first, then Darron Lee, then Karl Joseph. Beautiful draft to start.

You could make an argument to trade back in every draft provided a team wants the spot bad enough to give you something worth trading back. I honestly think that a team shouldn't trade back (unless the offer is way too good to turn down like if the Redskins are calling you for another RG3 trade), however if a team is already built & near the cap it makes sense to push it back to next season (trading this years 1st for next years and something else for example).
This team is lacking too much talent on Defense to trade back. I would even suggest that they should consider trading up to get both Vernon & Jalen in this years draft. To get the FS that they need & the corner that they desperately need!
I would say at least wait to see what happens tomorrow (Monday's Combine) and then see if you still think about trading back.. what if Vernon runs a 4.29 in the 40?
I think we should have a better idea after free agency. If the Jaguars sign 5 and 4 star free agents we can take BAP at 5. If we can't land some good FA we should look into trading back.

Yea I would be totally against that. For the mere fact if one of those two did bust. We would be in a bigger hole. I think we desperately need a number 1 corner. And I would trade back for Alexander in a heart beat. Is House a number 1 corner? I highly doubt it. He is good at times but not a number 1 to cover Hopkins and Wright year in and year out.
I believe the Free Safety comment was a smoke screen. Do we need one yes. Is it more valuable then a number 1 corner no. Plus I have seen a bunch of guys who did their research say Ramsey looks like a SS rather then a Free Safety.
He is not really a play maker. Rather waits for the ball carrier to come his way.
Depends. If both Ramsey and Bosa are gone I wouldn't be opposed to trading back and picking up Hargreaves. But I don't think there will be much of a market for a trade back.
If you want to see a really good guy evaluate film for not a scout.
Voch Lombardi on you tube. Does a really good player evaluation from different angles and a good commentator.

No one has two first rounders this year to even start to be able to think about a scenario like this though...

You could get fancy and get another team involved.

Hasn't happened in the NFL before?
Count me out.
We need some game changing players.
Jack/Ramsey/Bosa, whoever it may be. Give me the game wrecker.

If Hargreaves III runs as good as I think he might today in the Combine & (combined with the film, and other things) I doubt he'll be there past 10 maybe not past 5.
Gill thinks that Bosa is still the number 1, but others thing that Joey is over rated.. what say you?

Agreed.
Trading back usually occurs when you are looking for depth and not elite talent. We need elite talent. Imagine trading back and missing out on Jack or Bosa or Ramsey and they turn into all-pros while we get a prospect with more question marks.
