Quote:How high would you go personally? If the Ravens are offering 11 mil/yr to play left tackle are you going to offer Osemele 12+ a year to play guard, which would be 50% higher than the second highest guard? I love Osemele but that's suuuuuuper expensive.
There are a lot of other good guards on the market. Brandon Brooks, Jeff Allen, Alex Boone, Amini Silatolu, Michael Harris were all very highly rated and are 27 or younger. Then there is a good group of very good 'older' guards like Incognito, Ramon Foster, Georff Schwartz, Tony Bergstrom, etc...and only Incognito is over 30.
I'd give him 5years 65mil and plug him in at LT. Probably need 70 mil.
Quote:So the answer to my question above would be yes? You would pay Osemele 12 mil a year to play guard when the current highest paid guard in the league is getting 8.5 million?
If you view Osemele as an elite talent then yes. The elite guys get paid the most, especially the ones who happen to hit the open market. On the flip side Alex Mack could also be looking at similar numbers. Would you rather pay that money towards Mack or Osemele?

Hell do that too. Or go after Cordy Glenn with a similar contract.

I have been the strongest voice on here (after Dumptruck I suppose) saying to avoid Mack. I would give 10 mil/yr to Osemele...but 12 mil/yr is too rich unless it's literally to be the full time replacement at LT and believe he would be elite at it.

Yes, I would give Glenn 12 mil a year, but he's gonna be franchised.

In the grand scheme of things what is the difference of 2 mill per more a year if it comes down to that?

Per year, a lot.

Maybe to a team strapped for cash.
With the way the Jags have been able to structure all of their free agency contract singings the past couple of years to where there is little to no dead money if it doesn't work out I'm sure they can find a way to make it work in this case.
Free agents get overpaid - some more than others. If they want him they'll pay him.
No big desl though - there will be a good guard available in the 2nd or 3rd round and they can just figure out who makes a better center - Linder or Cann.

As I said on the previous page, it's also a very impressive FA list of guards outside of Osemele. Sure, go hard for Osemele...offer him the biggest guard contract in history. If he demands the biggest contract in history by 50% though, just move on and get Brooks, Allen, Boone, Silatolu, Foster, etc and be plenty happy they are all good players.
If Osmele is priced out of the market for a guard, Alex Boone and Ramon Forster will do. Or, Jahri Evans as a 1-2 year patch wouldn't be horrible.

Per THIS year, it's less than 1/75th the overall salary cap a year difference. But what do I know, I haven't even looked at his shocking half moon spider Web.

This fetish you have with some of us is really creepy dude. I am starting to think you might seriously have some issues...

No fetish, friend. I'm just not as nearly as impressed by you as you are of yourself.
We are not all falling for the arrogant junior draftnik in training persona.
So Osemele is a versatile offensive lineman? Can he play guard, center, or tackle? I like that a lot of that's the case.
Joeckel, Osemele, Cann, Linder, Parnell
Bowanko, Wisniewski, Shatley, Beadles, Draft pick
Not bad.
^^^^ I doubt Wiz will resign to be a backup, we shall see though, I'd certainly want him back at a cheap price if he was willing.
12 is high for sure but I love the idea of him being good all over the line. But then again it is a pretty good year FA wise for talent so I dont believe Id go 12 at all.
Give me Brooks for 7.5-ish.
