Bill Maher Fined $1.7 Million For THIS On Live Television
Friday night’s episode of Real Time with Bill Maher ended with Maher lighting up a joint after a pro-marijuana statement. The FCC immediately fined him $1.7 million, the largest fine since Janet Jackson’s wardrobe malfunction during the Super Bowl halftime in 2004.

If you mess with the bull you get the horn.
He more or less dared the FCC
1) He can afford it
2) You know that was planned out
3) He'll benefit in terms of ratings and support because of it.
My question is, how can they PROVE it was weed he was smoking?
He should have vaped. Smoking sets a bad example for the kids.

I was wondering the same thing.
He probably won't even pay a dime of it, I'm sure the show budgeted it out.
Isn't HBO out of the FCC's "jurisdiction"?
He toked, wasn't fined. Snopes.
I used to like him in the 90s when he was less extreme and less politically off balance.
Every now and then he shows those roots, but unfortunately few and far between lately.
I commend him for taking his stand. But at the same time, he's gotta pay to play. He knows the rules. Guess he felt his point would be well made regardless the cost.
EDIT: I see the fine was Snoped. More reason for him to do it. It stays alive on the interwebs forever, even if false.

He smoked. He has a prescription. He wasn't fined. God bless America.

Not just him, as the show closed Maher passed the joint to a very eager Killer Mike, then it made the rounds to Joshua Green and Margaret Cho. Only Ana Navarro abstained.
