Quote:That didn't take long, It looks like the FBI may not need Apple's help after all. Anyone want to re-cast their vote?

It proved Edward Snowden point correct. He basically is saying they knew there were other ways, but that isn't what they were after.
Looks more like a PR move by Apple more than anything. Don't believe for a minute that the government couldn't crack an apple device without their permission.
Quote:A court has ordered Apple to assist the FBI decrypt an iPhone of a dead terrorist. Apple says "No", as it could compromise the privacy of its customers and sets a precedence for the government demanding backdoor access in future devices.

Who is in the right?

Our Judicial branch decides if the legislative laws are being correctly enforced by the executive branch, if you don't like the way things are going you vote for who you want to change it.  The law of the land has spoken & therefore Apple should help the FBI out, or appeal to the Supreme Court.

I don't think you can use actual passwords to unlock an iPhone. Maybe it finally occurred to them that "7272" was a pretty safe bet?
"I've always wanted to own & control the primary technology in everything we do." - Steve Jobs

The real reason Apple doesn't want to comply, is they are simply giving up control to the Govt (it would go against everything Steve Jobs fought for).

Phone cracked w/o AAPL's help, order to comply thrown out by judge.

General assumption is they had the know how to crack the phone all along but didn't want admit they had so they pretended to need Apple's help.

Of course the guys that can turn the mic in your phone on remotely surely can get around a password lock.
And now Apple wants to know how the FBI cracked it.  Keep on wanting, Apple. The FBI isn't telling you. :woot:

I believe the FBI is technically violating a patent. Surely they should be responsible for following the laws they gleefully enforce.
