@caplannfl #Lions CB Rashean Mathis announced his retirement.

Best cornerback in Jaguars history and it's not even close. A true pro.

One the two jerseys I own him and MJD although an Arob is on its way.
...and if you don't think so I will fight you!

Just kidding, I'm not fighting anybody over their wrong opinion.

Mathis had himself one heck of a career. I wish him all the success in whatever the next chapter of his life contains.

Goodnight sweet prince.

Never forget the Steelers games!
Dude may have been a Hall of Famer if the Jags & Steelers were still in the AFC Central (and played each other 2x per year)

Truth.
So no chance to sign a one-day contract to retire a Jag huh?

The best cornerback in Jaguars history, and worthy of inclusion in the Pride of the Jaguars.

Mathis was legit. I hope retirement does him well.
I heard he was given a franchise tag.  :whistling:

He will go down as a legend in Jaguar history. When people talk about the early days of the Jaguars, his name will always come up. Along with Freddy, darius, peterson, stroud, henderson, jimmy, and keenan. And obviously brunell and boselli.
I read that he might sign a 1 day contract with the Jaguars. He loves jacksonville very much.
Damn I miss prime Rashean at CB for us.
Great player. Impressive he was able to play at such a high level for so long.

Excellent comments by you and throughout this thread.

Rashean Mathis made a huge impact with two NFL teams,   His CB play last decade with the Jaguars ranks near the top of AFC CBs in that time frame.   Other than Champ Bailey,  I can't think of a CB in the AFC that had more sustained higher level success last decade than Mathis did.

For the Lions,  Rashean Mathis had 2 strong seasons and even more importantly,  has been a mentor for CBs  Darius Slay and Nevin Lawson ( among others ).  Slay is on the verge of a huge payday,  in large part because of Mathis.   Very few players earned more respect in a locker room than Rashean Mathis did the last 3 seasons.

I wish Rashean Mathis and his family nothing but the best.   Like rollerjag mentioned,  I think Mathis has earned his place in the Jaguars HOF.   Whether it's a coaching career,  becoming a professional golfer,  or anything else Rashean Mathis elects to do,   he should be highly successful moving forward.   Thankfully,  Rashean Mathis no longer is feeling the affects of the concussion he suffered against the Vikings last October.
One of my favorite Jaguars (but I am bias because I enjoy a great DB player), but I love the positive comments he made about Jacksonville.

Sheen had 8 interceptions in one year.  Our whole team had 9 last year.

A lot of people remember his last couple years here, but he was an absolute stud here for a long time.  He was one of those guys you paid to go see because he was a play maker.  Congrats on a great career!

The following is an excellent article on Rashean Mathis'  impact with the Lions the last 3 seasons.   Though, like so many others around the United States/ NFL world,  Kyle Meinke underrated  Rashean Mathis'  play with the Jaguars.   Mathis is a very difficult player to replace because of what he provides from an intangible standpoint:

Much respect to Mr. Mathis.  Still have an unworn jersey of his that I hope to have signed one day.
