DT this year literally goes 12 deep. We are going to be able to get a very good, first round caliber interior player in the second round.

DeForest Buckner

Robert Nkemdiche

Sheldon Rankins

Jarran Reed

A'Shawn Robinson

Andrew Billings

Kenny Clark

Vernon Butler

Adolphus Washington

Jihad Ward

Maliek Collins

Austin Johnson

Amazing depth!! We will be able to serious strengthen our interior this year by signing Malik Jackson and getting one of those guys up top.

Javon Hargrave..

Seeing this list makes me more interested in Trevathan and Vernon.

Though this type of depth may tempt Denver to let Jackson go.
We need a DT pretty badly as well. I know Sen'Derrick is coming back, but he's coming off a couple of injuries and there's not a lot to work with behind him. Great year to need some good depth at the DT position.

I don't see taking a DT in the second round, unless some of the other priority upgrade opportunities get addressed well in free agency.  There are more pressing needs in my opinion.

Gimme all 3! Danny, Vernon and Jackson.

Draft Bosa/Jack/Ramsey.... Yup.
If we could sign Jackson, Trevathon, Weddle

That would address all 3 levels.

Then we could draft Bosa/Spence/Ramsey/Jack in round 1

and truly go BAP after that, imo.

There's no doubt in my mind the BAP when we pick in the second round will be a DT.

I don't know. I think DT is pretty high priority actually. If you can get some rush from the middle that's just as good as the outside. We need it from wherever we can get it. Sen has been out recently quite a lot, but we need a young guy in there behind him or at least in rotation. I think it's a need, imo.

That would be great to add a FS or DE and then get a 1st round talent DT in the 2nd.
We also need a long-term solution at NT. Miller isn't exactly a spring chicken himself.

A haul of Jackson and one of the DT draftees in the second would put our interior over the top and alleviate Fowler and Bosa who will both essentially be rookies.

What would your proposed depth chart look like with Fowler, Bosa, Odrik, Jackson, Miller, Marks, 2nd rounder, and Alualu?
If Billings falls to round two, I think Caldwell should strongly consider him. I think he will have a long, illustrious NFL career.

Fowler-Jackson-Miller-Odrik is the base starting unit

Bosa and Marks will come off the bench but get near starter snaps. Alualu and the 2nd rounder compete for snaps.

I think a lot of these guys will. This DT class will be like the '14 receiver class imo. Multiple probowl caliber players.
This class does have the possibility to have as many elite defensive tackles as there were wide receivers in 2014. Another comparison would be the 1996 defensive end class. There were 6 defensive ends considered to have 1st round talent and the Jaguars were extremely lucky that Tony Brackens was the one who fell to the 2nd round. Busts like Cedric Jones, Duane Clemons and Regan Upshaw were all taken ahead of him since Brackens was considered inconsistent. Looking back into Jaguar draft history, this was one of the top 3 value picks in their history.

If the BAP in the 2nd round happens to be a defensive tackle, there is no question that the Jaguars should take that player. Even if they are fortunate enough to sign Malik Jackson in free agency, being able to sign first round talent like Vernon Butler, Billings, or Johnson in the 2nd round would be impossible to pass up unless another great value player like MacKenzie Alexander also falls for some reason. It is even possible that Nkemdiche will fall due to his character concerns so I'm sure Caldwell will do his due diligence on him prior to draft day.

Going back to the 1996 draft, the Jaguars should have learned that year that it is almost never smart to draft for need over value. Kevin Hardy was a good player, but Jonathan Ogden is a hall of famer that they passed on since they already had their bookend tackles. Unless my memory is failing, the Jaguars still do not have an ex player in the Hall of Fame and it is highly unlikely that any other ex-Jaguar player gets there anytime soon.

That's very interesting.   In 2014, we drafted 2 WRs in the 2nd round.   I know need met value in 2014, but still, I wonder, in 2016, due to the depth of the DT class, would this virtually guarantee that the best player available at our pick in round 2 is a DT?   Therefore, would that mean that right now, the odds are, we will draft a DT in the 2nd round?

2nd round is where I would take a chance on Robert Nkemdiche.
I really do like the thought of a disruptive 3 tech helping keep Marks fresh. Just have no clue which one falls to a spot Dave likes. I'm thinking day two.
Maliek Collins is an interesting 4th round prospect IMO.

Raw, but could do well at 3 tech learning from Marks.
The more days that pass.. Im coming to the conclusion that deforest Buckner is the pick at 5..
