Quote:Sounds intriguing, and he's guaranteed to hit the market, unlike Von Miller or Olivier Vernon.

Vernon could hit the market. In fact it's more than likely due to the amount of money they gave to Suh.
There is a zero% chance that Miller hits.

I was thinking the same about Vernon, but I've also heard through restructuring other deals, the Fish will try to retain him.
If Vernon stays in MIA then we should look at Ware and Williams as good options.
As long as one of these guys is a Jag by training camp then I am good...
Olivier Vernon
Mario Williams
Chandler Jones
Jason Pierre-Paul
Joey Bosa
Noah Spence
Tamba Hali
Out of them all Mario would be my favourite signing.
I'm down to go after him. Him and Fowler, With Marks and Miller on the inside........ Come on......
GO JAGS!!
This is a list of possible free agents this year, compiled by Yahoo sports.

If we assume Miller, Vernon, Malik Jackson and Muhammad Wilkerson were to be retained by their teams, the list of likely free agent defensive linemen would look like this.
Muhammad Wilkerson
Malik Jackson
Ian Williams
Nick Fairley
Derek Wolfe (Re-signed 4-year, $36.7M deal with DEN)
Jaye Howard
Damon Harrison
Haloti Ngata
Terrance Knighton
Cedric Thornton
Vinny Curry (Re-signed 5-year, $47.25M deal with PHI)
Robert Ayers
Brandon Mebane
Adrian Clayborn
Akiem Hicks
Steve McLendon
B.J. Raji
Jason Jones
Tyrunn Walker
Mike DeVito
Henry Melton
Kevin Williams
Al Woods
Letroy Guion
Antonio Smith
Jared Crick
Kendall Reyes
Ahtyba Rubin
Cullen Jenkins
Sammie Lee Hill
Leger Douzable
Billy Winn
Kyle Love
Kedric Golston
Alex Carrington
Pat Sims
Brandon Thompson
Mitch Unrein
Red Bryant
Tony McDaniel
Cam Thomas
Kenrick Ellis
Corey Wootton
Jarvis Jenkins
Stephen Bowen
Greg Scruggs
Ricardo Mathews
Mike Martin
Jermelle Cudjo
Da'Quan Bowers
Barry Cofield
Demarcus Dobbs
Jack Crawford
Clifton Geathers
Edge Defenders
Von Miller
Jason Pierre-Paul
Olivier Vernon
Greg Hardy
Aldon Smith (Suspended)
Tamba Hali
Bruce Irvin
William Hayes
Nick Perry
Courtney Upshaw
Dwight Freeney
Kroy Biermann
Wallace Gilberry
Mike Neal
Junior Galette
Darryl Tapp
Jeremy Mincey
Derrick Shelby
Andre Branch
Eugene Sims
Sam Acho
LaMarr Woodley
Calvin Pace Quinton Coples
Albert McClellan
Justin Trattou
Frank Zombo
Chris Carter
Larry English
Frank Alexander
Anthony Spencer
George Selvie
Of these remaining, I would strongly consider, besides Mario Williams:
Haloti Ngata-yes he is in his 30s, but interior DTs-especially space eaters, have been proven to play at a pretty good level into their 30s.
BJ Raji, Bruce Irvin (naturally), Nick Perry, and Cam Thomas
Thoughts on these names are welcomed, especially from D6 on Ngata.

Getting one of them? Uhhhh yes.

I agree. I have seen other people post on this forum that it is almost a for gone conclusion that the Phins are resigning Vernon. However here is their salary cap problems
http://www.hngn.com/articles/171920/2016...agency.htm
So the Fish are about over the salary cap with the 41 players signed for next season. So they have to get under the cap and get to 45 players without giving Vernon a big raise. What I am reading is that Vernon could get any where from $10-12 million/year. There is no way Miami is getting that far under the cap. Their problem is due to the fact they gave Suh almost no money last year with a $800k base salary to fit him under the salary cap but this year he is due a $28million cap hit. So now they are going to sign another D-Lineman to a big contract. I just can't see it happening.

Good for us. Olivier Vernon should be our number 1 target if he gets free.

If they restructure Suh's contract as expected they can free up 18 million in cap.

I misread you post. I thought you would be satisfied if we landed all of them -- my bad
He does sound pretty motivated. Comes down to time and terms. He's 31, so does he sign a 4 year deal, or more of a short-term incentive based contract (it would be pretty pointless to lose him after 1 good season)?
Give me Knighton and Mincey. Championship.

Sounds very motivated with a chip on his back. But Philly has his former DC
Philly's pass rushing Dline depth is crazy deep,he wouldn't get many snaps.
So I was monkey-buttgasing around the interwebs and I ran across
an article about Jim Schwartz and what kind of Defense he is going to run in Philadelphia. The reason this article is pertinent to the Williams' discussion is that it contains clips from Schwartz' days at Buffalo and how he utilized that monster Defensive Line that he had. Essentially, Schwartz would use the Wide 9 technique in obvious passing downs in order to get his pass rushers in one-on-one situations and let them work. Seemed to generate some positive results.
Fast Forward to this past season when reports are that Williams was used as more of a space eater, and I can see why he would be frustrated with that role. More and more, I feel like Williams could find a very nice niche here playing a role where he gets to primarily rush the passer.
