I saw the Tool/Primus show at UCF Arena last Thursday and I can honestly say that was the best show I've ever seen. Tool is so good live it's scary. Their songs are already so intricate and complex on record so how they're able to replicate it live is beyond me. Add to that the lighting being synched up to the notes and it makes for a mind-blowing show.
I still haven't seen Pink Floyd live which is a major regret in my life. Outside of them, I don't see anybody putting on a show like Tool.
Has anybody blown your mind when you've seen them live? I've seen Tool four times now and I can honestly say they're the best I've ever seen.
White Zombie put on a great show. Saw them with Pantera here in Jax years and years ago.. Slipknot puts on a hell of a show. Lots and lots of energy..
And believe it or not? Manson shows are pretty killer.. Seen him/her/it 3 times. Each show was completely different and all were high energy.

In different musical worlds I've also been mesmerized watching guys like Lou Rawls (in 2005) , B.B. King (in 2011), George Porter (of The Meters) and Bernard Purdie (drummer for Aretha Franklin, James Brown and Joe Cocker) do their thing up close and personal.

I like all those guys but haven't seen any of them live. I'm a big Metallica fan but their live shows are sub-par at best. I had goosebumps during the entire Tool show. They're that good live.

Along the same lines, I saw Tom Petty two or three years ago and he was incredible. Great show.
Saw George Thorogood at the Cole Field House in College Park MD. High energy show, so high they had to cut the power to the stage to get him off it.
I really enjoy going to the Trans-Siberian Orchestra show every December.
Rush (does Rush ever give a bad performance?) , ZZ Top, and for the most studio-like quality I've ever heard from a live performance was REO Speedwagon. The worst show was Foghat. Gawd they sucked.
Oh, and Triumph. Rik Emmett is incredible.
I saw Rob Zombie perform last year and I would have bet the house that they were playing a CD through the sound system. Just unreal how good they sounded.

I would love to have been at the concert Metallica did with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra. I saw the DVD of it which was pretty cool.
I've only been to a Trans-Siberian Orchestra concert and it was pretty sweet. They're in Charlotte, NC every December but my husband has to work every single time. I may just have to go by myself this year.
Prince, and not much is even close.
Saw him on Musicology, his last major tour.
Every single artist in the band got their own solo. Not just a measure or two, but a real solo. And they were good. REALLY good.
INXS had incredible energy and crowd connection.
Genesis was just a fantastic show all the way around.
Michael Buble was fantastic, a show that isn't a bore for the guys (like I thought it might be.)
James Taylor takes you to a different time and place.
Metallica usually does a good job of bringing and feeding the energy no matter how bad Lars plays.

I really think some folks mix their shows. I thought the same of Motley Crue, but was affected in the opposite way. The sound was so clean it really wasn't very engaging at all, like I was watching a video and not a live band.

That was my reaction at first, then I started paying attention to John 5 and no. There was no way that was mixing. They just had it sound that damn good.
Growing up in the 70's and 80', saw Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Alice Cooper, Yes, Deep Purple, and others of that genre. But one of the best overall shows that I ever saw was Billy Joel.

I saw Korn and Rob Zombie at Mayhem Festival a few years ago and they were both awesome. They both sounded great. Rob Zombie has some pretty awesome stage production as well with a lot of pyro included.
I've seen Slipknot a couple times and they always put on a good show. Cool stage production and pyro as well.
Same with Kiss, who, believe it or not, I've seen at least five times.
A band that caught me by surprise by how awesome they sounded was Dream Theater. I went to one of their shows really only to see the opening band, but I was blown away by how great they were.
