Quote:Michael Bennett just finished his rookie season. I expect some better things from him in 2016. But obviously I am not going to fool myself and call him an upgrade over Roy Miller right now.
Bennett and Roy play two different positions.
Anyways, I'd rather take Trevathan. A FA group of Olivier Vernon, Danny Trevathan, Eric Weddle, and Nolan Carroll would be a good start for me.

I doubt we sign all four of those players. If we can only get one, I want Trevathan and it is not even close.

If we can get only one then Olivier Vernon is the correct answer.
Trevathan no question! There are better options on dline in free agency and Draft then Inside linebackers. I'd prefer Olivier
Vernon or Bruce Irvin in free agency over Jackson. I also think theres a big drop off after Reggie Ragland at mlb in draft. I
am starting to wonder if Ragland may be option at 5 especially if Bosa is gone.

Reggie Ragland is mocked no higher than #11. Otherwise I am seeing #17 or #20.
Danny Trevathan said this week although his focus is on Super Bowl 50 he has thought about testing free agency if the Broncos don't offer him a new contract. Apparently he thinks Denver will move on from him based on his comments. That may sound like good news for us, but the Bears are more enticing because they have John Fox.

Good point about Fox
So would Danny choose Fox over the state of Florida, money, and the very real possibility of the playoffs (depending on how well the Jags do this offseason)??

I don't know what Chicago's salary cap situation is, but some players accept less money to play for certain coaches. That is something I will be watching when his contract expires.
Quote:The Bears have the 4th most cap space with 52 mil. If Trevathan wants to be a Bear he'll be a Bear.
Then a lot of posters on this board will be unhappy.

Very true
But the Jags still have quite a bit more cap space and can overpay even more than the Bears depending on cuts and signings

The Jaguars also know better than to overpay him.

Serious question...
Do you believe any FA signed on day one or day two isn't overpaid??

Danny Trevathan is not going to sign with a team on Day 1 or 2 unless it is Chicago.

Yep. There is a very strong chance that the Jags wind up offering the most money to most or all of Trevathan/Jackson/Vernon/Osemele/etc (like they did with Cobb/McCourty/Julius last year), and I think there's a solid chance they only wind up with one of them if they're lucky...like with Julius. I know that sounds pessimistic, but that's the reality when you consider how many other teams that are perceived to be better teams or in better markets or have more stable coaching situations that also have a boatload of money.

In Randall Cobb's case, it was about wanting to stay in Green Bay, where he was very successful with Aaron Rodgers. The Packers wanted to retain him as well. Signing Cobb last year was a pipe dream.
We can be more optimistic about players like Eric Weddle whose teams clearly don't want them anymore. Danny Trevathan is in a "they can't pay me because of my teammates" situation, which helps us.
Bleacher Report says we will go after Jackson hard. I just don't get where he is going to play given our personnel. It would have to be 3-tech but that puts Marks on the bench. Maybe they want to do that? He is going to be 29 coming off 2 major injuries but idk how he is going to feel about that.

I wouldn't lose any sleep over not getting Trevathan. Would much rather go after Olivier Vernon and Tashaun Gipson.
Its looking like the Broncos will have enough cap to keep almost everyone. I think they'll let Trevathen go and keep Jackson.
