Gas? We didn't buy gas because we didn't have a car. We walked everywhere, uphill, in every direction.

Milk? We had to walk uphill through 3 feet of snow to milk the cows at 3:00 in the morning so we could be to school by 6:00 in a one room schoolhouse...with no heat!

My school had A/C and central heating. The heat would only work during summer and the A/C would only work during winter. 

i only had one flipflop

It is not the snow you need to worry about but the ice! In driving on it.
