I came across the following Twitter feed earlier this evening in which Brandon Linder is ranked the 5th highest Center in the NFL through Week # 6.   Linder also has a very good consistency grade:

It's sure nice to see Linder even ranking ahead of the Falcons Alex Mack.


 

Is the Cowboys Travis Frederic really that good? His "scaled score" is unreal... as though he's nearly perfect.

 Travis Frederick is a very good all around Center.   Yet,  his overall score compared to all of the other Centers is something I didn't expect.   It reminds me of how many rate Rams DT Aaron Donald compared to whoever is the next highest rated DT.    I'm planning on watching Fredrick even more closely in the Cowboys next game,  which is a prime time contest against the Eagles in Week # 8.

He also has an easier job because he just has to do his job and not worry about the rest of his line mates.

 

That Cowboys line is incredible. I watched them play the Packers (who were holding teams to 50 yards rushing a game) and Zeke went off. Running through wide open holes. It's similar to when Emmitt played behind his line. They are that good.

  It's impressive that the Cowboys haven't missed a beat with LG La'el Collins.  Ronald Leary,  his replacement,  probably would be a starter for many teams,  if not the majority of teams. 

 

  The Cowboys Offensive Line in their Super Bowl seasons certainly ranks with the best Offensive Lines I've ever seen.   I have great respect for Emmitt Smith for what he accomplished as an all around RB in his NFL career.   But he certainly played in much more favorable conditions than the vast majority of RBs who have ever played in the NFL.

 

  One game in particular I'm really interested to see if when Dallas plays at Minnesota on a Thursday Night the week after Thanksgiving Day.   The Vikings Defense and the loud dome crowd will probably be the Cowboys Offensive Line's greatest test this season.

Leary was given the 2nd round RFA tag for a reason, he's a proven good player. The real surprise is that they missed Tyron Smith for two games and didn't really miss a beat.

  That illustrates the mistake Gene Smith in trading up for Blaine Gabbert as much as anything I've seen.

 

   It's also yet another reminder of the very realistic chance of a 1st Round QB not panning out.

The fact that Gabbert has shown NOTHING in his 5 years in the league that indicated he was worthy of a first round pick just shows how bad it was. Even if Blake doesn't pan out like we all hope he's still shown first round qualities in his short career.

 

The Gabbert pick set this franchise back a long time. I'd argue that we're still recovering from it just because of how good that first round was. Imagine a player like Tyron Smith (we traded up so could have jumped an extra spot or two I'm sure although I doubt we'd have ditched Monroe so early), , JJ Watt, Robert Quinn, Mike Pouncey, Ryan Kerrigan (all drafted within 6 picks of Gabbert) on this roster now.

As I recall, Kerrigan was drafted with the Jaguars original pick. They should have just stayed put.

    The additional negative ramifications for the Jaguars in Blaine Gabbert not coming close to panning out is the Jaguars lost an opportunity to draft a non-QB in the 1st Round of the 2014 Draft.  Even assuming the Jaguars would have been picking later than pick # 3 in 2014,   there still could have been some very good non QB opportunities in Round 1 if the team had its QB in place.   Aaron Donald,  who was taken by the then St. Louis Rams with pick # 13, comes to mind immediately.    Every team has missed on players in Round 1.   But when the miss is at the QB position,  it usually takes longer to overcome because of the length of time factor in developing most QBs.
