Quote:We won 4 games was it in 2013 without Blake or Arob. In fact, we won 4 games with what's being hailed as a historically bad roster. So......

It is true that we won 4 games without Blake and Arob and a historically bad roster.

Unfortunately it is also true that we only won 5 games with both Blake and Arob having Jaguar record type years.

So........................what does that tell you?
Quote:A great QB covers up a lot of holes. This team should have won more games than they did this year. We had the easiest schedule in the league and still managed 5 wins.

The Dallas coaching staff proved it can win games. Gus hasn't proved anything. So yes, the Dallas team lost more than us but they also lost their 2 best players for about 10 games. One of which is the most important position on the field. If they had gone, 4-12 with Romo and Dez healthy, you think they bring that staff back? Doubt it.

I get the pass rush part but how come it can't even be mediocre? How come Gus (who is a defensive minded coach) can't even make this decent average. I'm not saying very good... I'm saying just average. Doesn't seem like a tall order to be the 16th best defense in the league.
That's not unreasonable what you're saying and I somewhat agree. I happen to think it's a miracle we won 4 games in 13 but only 5 games last season. I guess I'm just willing to put some stock in a horrid defense hurting us to the degree of losing several winnable games than I am in placing all the blame on one person. I get that Gus is a defensive minded coach and as perplexing as that is, it was clear to see where the issue were and there didn't appear to be any way they could scheme rushing the passer with the players they had to work with. Could a better coach have gotten more out of Branch, Clemons, Davis, etc.? Maybe, but it's hard to see that happening.

That we won more games with a worse roster. I don't know. Did the coaching get worse? Hard to say.

No, that we had a much better roster and only won 1 more game then the 4 games with a historically bad roster.

"Did the coaching get worse"? you ask.

The coaching, specifically head coaching, got out-coached and out-schemed by a lot of the opposing coaches who had rookie QBs, backup QBs, and journeyman QBs as their starters. Not all of course, but many teams did.

It's not like the Jags got beat by a bunch of HOF Qbs this year.

I totally know how you feel as you've stated it at every opportunity. I offered that maybe that crappy defense played a part in some of the losses to counter another argument with another poster who........never mind, it's an endless circle.

Lets see how it works out in 2016. You may get your wish. OR, maybe we'll improve with a defensive overhaul. We'll see.

No roster is going to be perfect. Our defense might get better next year but guess what, everyone else has a chance to get better too. The Colts will have Luck healthy for a whole season. Maybe the Texans get a QB. Titans won't be as bad as they were this year.

We had a chance to take a really poor division (like the Redskins did) but instead squandered it. You can put all the blame on the pass rush all you want but I think a better coach would have found a way to win some more games. (I'm not a coach so I don't know what those ways are)

Our crappy defense certainly played a part in our record. But the Texans made the playoffs with Hoyer and Yates.... Colts came close with Hasselbeck and Whitehurst. Everyone has injuries.

This reasonable perspective is preposterous!!!!  Where's my pitchfork?!?

No one is saying pitchfork.

Just stating opinions.

I'll clearly see how it works out in 2016 since... ya know... I got no other choice since I don't have a time machine to jump to the year the Jags win the SB.

Every roster has an area to upgrade, I agree. We'll never, EVER have the best player at every position, but you have to have at least a reasonably efficient player at a position, especially one as important as disrupting the guy who throws the ball and makes the points happen, to win some games. We didn't have any of those players. I said I 'doubt' a better coach could have gotten reasonable play out of Old Clem or Branch, but who's to know? I'm making an assumption on what I saw those players do and how ineffective they were at a position of GREAT importance to the direct outcome of a game.

I was mostly countering your argument for why Dallas stunk with our similar situation of crappy players at important positions. That's all.
