Can someone please explain to me how we identified this coach to be our solution to developing a top secondary in the NFL ?

If Gus isnt being held responsible for the first 2 years, should we hold Dewayne responsible for the first 2 years?

Who is to say that the new DC won't bring in some of his own positional coaches?

Absolutely pathetic

Gee, Gus was looking for someone with a lil HC experience, with a matching record to boot.

He got just what he was looking for.

LOL, LOL

It's not enough we have pseudo GMs, pseudo Head Coaches, Pseudo OCs, a lot of pseudo DCs - now we are micromanaging the DBs.

This gets better and better. Ah, the off-season. Go for it. And I'm not even trying to discourage anyone from discussing this. Sadly I can already write some of the responses from the usual suspects (not necessarily you).

But who knows - perhaps some adults will respond.

This. The Jags may well be waiting to identify a new coordinator and let him have some say in which assistants he wants to keep, which he wants to jettison, and who he wants to replace them.
It's always this simple.  Great coaches are there you don't even have to talk to them, just look at some statistics that fit your narrative.  That'll prove it.

Where DO we find these people?  Wallbash

Can you imagine a draftee from a good college team coming in and being coached by under achiever like this.

after he quit laughing.... about who he has for a coach......he probably tuned him out.

If you're going to draw from a college.....at least draw from one that WINS. SMH.

Wins and losses do not matter to Gus apparently whatsoever
Not an impressive results resume.  I would not be shocked to see a new DC make a change.

I will agree the guy is not a good HC but that is not his job, now. I really don't care who the DB coach is as long as they can play... Ours have not been impressive but the entire defense has been disappointing not just the DBs.

He was on the staff for Gibbs, Belichick and Carroll it's not like New Mexico State was his first job and then we hired him to do what he failed at. Not defending the guy or his poor performance with our DBs but it seems kind of silly to say just because the guy is not a good head coach he can't be a serviceable DB Coach.

You really looking at a guys head coaching record to say he isnt a good position coach? come on now, there are plenty of great position coaches that were bad head coaches.

And your only looking at the bad, what about not having a pass rush effecting the play of the DBs

Plus Covlin lead all DBs in sacks and House broke the team record for pass break ups and was 3rd in the NFL, are you gonna give him credit for that?

Love the detail.  Very interesting that he only coached for Carroll, Belichick, and Gibbs during their down years.   Coincidence?  I think not.

Looks like Belichick got rid of him after 1 season when his Pats finished 5-11.    I wouldn't give him any credit for Malloy and Ty Law given the fact that their defense became good after he left.

USC?  he was there for a year so I'd be hard pressed to give him credit for Polamalu.
Did he formally work for DQ or Baskin Robbins before?

Losing record? Sounds like a Bradley type of guy

I got to agree Bradley never seems to hire proven winners. I understand hiring the coach and then letting him decide on his assistants. Although Bradleys is batting 0-2 in assistant hires.

Yeah doesn't look good either when McCray looked like he was on his way to be a pro bowler this year but instead was benched to the bottom of the roster.
Why is Gus's first hire this bad? We gotta scrutanize other positional coaches and their background.

JDR had Koetter, Mike Smith , Tucker ,  LB Coach who is with MIA and other good positional coaches.

Mularkey had Sullivan , Olson  , Tucker (Got from JDR).

Gus hire has been pathetic at best (atleast the initial hires)
