Quote:That Monroe trade still is plaguing the jags!! And this is just one of many dumb moves by Caldwell!! Like letting Daryl Smith go!! Oh but he got us Bortles smh!
Other outstanding moves: letting Rashad Jennings and Justin Forsett leave town while retaining Gerhart and D. Robinson.  Brilliant.

Stop. Jennings was gone and Forsett couldn't stay healthy. You're reaching.
Quote:The best ability is availability. Monroe hasn't played more than 10 games the last two years and has been atrocious since his been there in Baltimore. Joeckle hasn't been great but I'd take him over Monroe for upside. There still a chance for him. Monroe is bad with a bad contract and in a decline.

That is the truth.
Actually he played 28 games in the last 3 years!

So 9 games a year then?
Quote:There are plenty of things to pile on about this franchise. The Monroe isn't one of them.
Actually he is because we wasted a draft pick on a Tackle when we had one.. Bad Move!
Quote:If you scroll down to where it says the trades that he was involved in.

I do not know which source is correct but just a heads up;

"Traded by Jaguars to Ravens for 2014 4th round pick (114th overall, Aaron Colvin) and 2014 5th round pick (159th overall, Chris Smith)"
The extra picks allowed the Jaguars the flexibility to trade up for Robinson and Linder.
Just stop
Quote:Just stop
So you deny it's easier for a team to trade up with extra picks to move up?

You don't think a team would be less inclined to deal up without extra picks to use as consideration?
Monroe has been hurt. Joekel has been inconsistent. No one benefitted from that trade

He played 28 out of 50 games? That's just barely more than half.

** Ravens had 2 playoff games last year that made the three year total increase to 50 games.**

To be fair, he was traded 4 games into 2013 season, so "technically" he played 28 out the 46 games that he was available to play for the Ravens. Still, that isn't a good number.

The more draft chips,  the better.   Both for the reason you mentioned and it also provides a team with more leeway to take some risks in a draft.   If a team has three 5th Round picks and two of them disappear within a year or two but the other one turns out to be an NFL All-Pro for multiple seasons,   that would provide a huge net payoff for that team.
Quote:Have you seen Eugene Monroe play? haha YoBoy at his finest.
Ansah/Monroe> Jokel/Colvin/Smith

Do y'all even algebra?
Quote:IIRC, we used both of those Monroe picks to move up for both Allen Robinson and Brandon Linder.  I'd take either one over Monroe right now, not to mention both of them.

Wow, really? Caldwell is a genius afterall.

Meanwhile, the Ravens are struggling with how Monroe wanting to release him but fearing the dead money that would result.

Precisely.  As Jimmy Johnson said, having the extra picks gives you extra bites out of the apple.

Plus, it's easier to send away a 5th round pick to move up when you know you will still have a shot in the 5th round to pick, or two extra 4th round picks.

Imagine the opposite.

Imagine you are a GM of a rebuilding team with only one pick in each round, but you feel you need to trade up a few spots to get the guy you want in the first.  The cost is a 3rd and a 4th.  You could end up getting your guy if you pull the trigger, but now almost the entire middle of the draft is unavailable to you.  If you are a rebuilding team, can you afford to potentially miss out on a Mark Stepnoski, a Brandon Linder, or a Terrell Owens (3rd round picks)?

Same scenario, only this time, your team, due to trades, has an extra 4th and two extra 5th round picks (Sound familiar?).

This time, if faced with the same deal, you have enough ammo to either make a perhaps more palatable counteroffer, or to minimize the effect of the loss of those mid round picks.  In other words, if you have lost the 3rd round pick in the deal, you have enough extra picks later on to deal back up into the 3rd if there is a player you really want there, the extra picks in the 5th round make up for it and you increase your chance at getting a Telvin Smith.

Hmm Joeckel only played in 35 games in 3 years ... Should i pull up the sacks given between the two?? Or will you just accept Monroe was better?
