Anyone have any other film on this guy? I ONLY seen this one and he really is impressive, curious to see how he does at the senior bowl.

Thought this was a thread intentionally mocking how the national media would pronounce Vernon Hargreaves name if he were on the Jags... I'm both slightly disappointed and mildly interested now
This is the first I've heard of, or seen of him but first impressions are that he has a long ways to go from just a technical standpoint to get onto an NFL field.

I feel like his stance is very poor where his backside is higher than his shoulders. To me, that means that he doesn't like to bend at his knees either due to a lack of strength or a lack of flexibility. This may or may not affect his snap response (Lord, how I hate the term "get off") but that seems very slow to me as well.

He also seems to have a hesitation in his first step that may be due to him loading up on his plant foot. In other words, his first response when seeing the snap is not "push" but "load".

He seems to get a decent push when head up, especially on Ark PB's Center, but he's not going to be able to survive on a Swim move at the next level.

He's interesting, but I just don't think he's going to have what it takes to perform at that level in the video in the League.

I guess I disagree, but I will hold onto judgement till I see him at the senior bowl. He does need to lower his stance, but his quickness/penatration and power are pretty impressive, granted the level of competition isn't the greatest. But when you have 29.5 sacks and 40 plus tackles for loss in 2 seasons from the DT position, it's worth taking notice. No idea where he'll get drafted if he even does, but imo is worth a flyer late, but a good senior bowl could really elevate his draft stock or if he bombs he won't even sniff the nfl.

#63 is trash lmao hes just beating on him

Mayocks take:

East team practice
» South Carolina State DT Javon Hargrave: He's undersized (6-foot-2, 295 pounds), but a quick and explosive player. He's flashed both days in the pass-rush drills and in the one-on-ones. And even in the team drills, you can see how quick his get-off is."

EW Shrine day 2- Javon Hargrave- SCAR ST- quick and explosive / bubble butt / 1 gap and go...force me to watch his college tape tonight !

using your hips high in stance perfectly ok many greats do warren sapp included partially the belief is that high hips in stance forces the shoulders down for better pad level as well as giving you an advantage in get off watch a sprinters stance. I played some 3 tech in college that dudes gets off well looks a lot like senderick not using grammer because drunk few days off

My issue from watching the clip above is that he seemed to go to a swim move in most cases in order to beast his man. So if you are trying to keep your shoulders down, why make yourself work that much harder by getting your shoulders from the lowest possible point (the stance) to the highest possible point (at the peak of the 'swim')?

Is that a good thing or a bad thing?

It'd not good or bad just an observation. They're extremely similar players with almost identical sizes and play style.
That's a good question. Fundamentally if you feel you guy has opened the gate or jump an inside move or is playing with his feet to close together and can't recover its ok to swing your hips and spring around him. Recognizing when to do that is the trick, but playing low and springing around a man is fundamentally sound. Its a gamble though because the o lineman can knock you on your can if he catches popping up.
