Quote:we should just draft Henry from Bama.

Boom!
Not going to happen. Remember Yeldon started over Henry for 2 years. We do need a quality RB to backup Yeldon .

Not counting Jonas Gray or anything else we have, but we probably need 2 solid backups for Yeldon since he does it all.  We need a pounder and a 3rd down back if he gets hurt.
Quote:That's just from the combine.  You can easily double, if not triple, that number with players that either didn't go, didn't run, or weren't invited to the combine.  Then you can add other players that timed the same or slower than Denard, but are certainly faster.  And then there's players with similar speed that are overall just more athletic.  He's not some special athlete.  He's a very good athlete, but there are lots of them in the NFL.  I can find a ton of wide receivers with better numbers, which was what most believed Denard was going to play originally.  Corey Grant is faster and more athletic than Denard and you see what happened to him with one botched play.  There are plenty of Corey Grants out there in the world if Denard doesn't learn to hold onto the ball.

Arguing that he's outproduced guys with career ending injuries and who have done nothing isn't saying much.  You are ignoring that turnovers and drops are part of production.  His numbers aren't nearly as shiny when you take that into consideration.  Blake Bortles throwing 35+ touchdowns vs Tom Brady throwing 35+ touchdowns in a vacuum w/o looking at the turnover numbers might make you think Blake is an all pro.
At his size Denard is a pretty remarkable athlete and unlike Cory Grant and those like him he has shown and ability to break an arm tackle. I wasn't arguing that he has outperformed injured guys I was saying this is how he compares to the RBs drafted ahead of him.  I didn't do turnovers and that is a mistake.  Of course I would go as far as to say every team that drafted a RB before we did that year has a better offensive line than us.  I think a lot of people on here are blaming Denard for some subpar offensive line play that is regularly hitting RBs in the backfield at the point of the handoff causing fumbles.  He has improved every year since he has been in the league give him a line to block and watch him fly its too early to give up on him.

Denard has very average size. Corey Grant breaks tackles better than him. I don't put any criticism upon Denard for his carry average, or even running style, albeit not a natural one. That same line that you are blaming for Denards fumbles didn't cause any fumbles for Yeldon on significantly more carries - and ball security was a knock on Yeldon from college. Yeldon also doesnt drop easy catches very often like Denard does.

Denard is a good athlete, but if he doesn't develop some hands soon, he is not only going to be cut from our roster, but unemployed entirely. This team has already shown an enormous amount of patience with him.
If you are a RB and can't hold onto the football, you aren't going to be employed.  He may get a shot elsewhere but I don't see any valid reason to continue with him any longer.

Bingo.
Quote:I don't want to see him behind the line we played with this season but with some guys up there that can make holes absolutely.  He will fix the fumbling issues and the drops.
I was on his side about the fumbling thing.....

But maybe I was wrong.

He fumbled a lot when given the spotlight at the end of the season. Granted he didn't lose them all... but still...

You must have missed the post, almost immediately after, saying I was joking?

He had several other times when he almost fumbled as well.  I know on the TD run against the Colts he fumbled, but fortunately he had already crossed the goal line.  I like the guy and he's a fantastic athlete, but I just had an uneasy feeling every time he had the ball.  I don't want to be thinking 'hold onto the ball' every time my RB has the ball in his hands.  Hell, he could very well still be on the team next year.
Jonas Gray looks big and strong but there's a flaw somewhere because he's been cut enough times. Fumbler, maybe?

I thought it was off the field stuff?

I could see him sticking around through camp depending on what the team does with the position this off season.  I expect to see them look at what veteran talent is available in free agency, and where they might be able to get a guy in the draft.  I do think the team will make an effort to add talent/depth to the position.  If they don't, he'll stick around for the time being in an effort to allow him to earn a spot on the roster.

When the dust settles on the final cuts for 2016, I don't think he'll be on the roster.

I heard rumor about something happening in New England, but nothing verifiable.
Ball security and catching the ball issues continue.  I like the guy, but these items are his kiss of death.  He'll compete but not be on the 53 next season.
