Any chance he could be the steal of this years draft for us? CBS has him a projected 3rd round pick. Any chance he really falls that far? I know he has been injured most of the season but his first game back in the bowl game he lit it up and picked up right where he left off. If we could some how get lucky enough for him to fall for us I think Dave will hit another gem in the 3rd. Dont really think the makes it to the 3rd though. If I was Dave I would trade back in to the bottom of the 2nd like he did for A Rob if Scooby is ther

I've been thinking about this guy lately too when going over draft scenarios in my head. We need to address safety, corner, linebacker, and pass rush in the first 3 rounds, it's just a matter of how to go about it and the fact we only have 3 picks in the first 3 rounds. Safety in the first, then pass rush in the second, then linebacker? Or some other combination of that? It depends who falls to us in the first. I believe Wright is the one linebacker that will be available in the second round that can step in and play MLB as the other 3 guys (Smith, Jack, Ragland) would all be gone.
As for if he falls that far, I'm not sure about the 3rd round exactly but I think it's possible he falls to the bottom of the second. The position he plays has been undervalued and because he's undersized and not a spectacular athlete he it not going to be drafted high. If you look back at where players like Wright have went in the draft the past couple years there's a trend of undersized 4-3 guys or 3-4 inside guys dropping to mid or late second. Wright for us, however, would probably be a first round type talent in our defense because of his ability to play the run and rush the passer equally well. If he comes in 6'1'' 240 ish he's big enough to play MLB in our system. If he runs in the 4.6's he's fast enough. Only concern is coverage. But a linebacking core of Fowler-Wright-Smith I think would be one of the best young cores in the league.
Something like round 1 Ramsey, round 2 Sutton/Fuller, and then trade back up for Wright would be cool. Or Ramsey, Spence, Wright, depending on what we do in free agency.
Ramsay, Spence and Wright (trade up) would be unbelieveable. Prior to that, get a free agent cornerback (one of the 2 Rams on the market) and the defense would be top 10 in the league.
I've been pumping him up on the boards for some time and I really like him as a potential long term OTTO in our scheme. I feel like he'd be a better and younger version of Skuta. He's good in run defense and it's obvious he's a good pass rusher based on his productivity; the one question is how he'd hold up in pass coverage since he did little of it at Arizona. That said, he'd likely be a two down LB with the possibility of putting his hand in the dirt on occasion in pass rushing situations.
Well, I'm waiting, CAPTAIN. Show me why Scooby should be a first-rounder. And try to stay on-topic for once.
Anyone against taking Smith and Wright in the first 3 rounds?
