'Stoner Sloth' Campaign Is Peak Anti-Marijuana Absurdity
This is either the worst anti-drug campaign we’ve seen, or the very best.
“Stoner Sloth” is a series of videos purportedly meant to illustrate the horrors of marijuana to impressionable teens. The videos star people in large sloth costumes struggling through various life events due to how high they are. At the end of each ad -- after the featured sloth has had trouble in class or embarrassed itself at dinner -- the tagline “You’re Worse On Weed” is plastered across the screen.

For teenagers it's true. Believe me, I know. If I could go back in time I would never touch it.

I know it affected my progress in high school, but there were so many things going on in my personal life during those years it's hard to determine actual cause and effect. I drank too much during that period of my life as well. As with alcohol, use of marijuana is a decision for adults.

There is not one single doubt in my mind that my station in life would be better had I never smoked it. It robs motivation and stunts social, intellectual, and emotional growth in young forming brains. Like you, I had lots of problems to deal with in those years. At the time I thought of it as an escape. I realized later that it was the thing which impeded me.

Definitely an exception to the rule then.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. Quite a few of my friends smoked weed with me a lot, and went on to successful careers in their chosen fields. If your personal issues are so bad you're smoking so much weed it affects your academics, it's not the weed.

You can be affected negatively by smoking at a young age and still get back on track at some point to be a success. How much more successful could these young ones be had they not partook?

Most were successful while smoking in high school, college and a few still smoke. A couple are currently independently wealthy. My friends that did not succeed were like me, affected by other factors. It's hardly ever the drug at the root of the problem. Instead, it's whatever causes the person to abuse the drug.

Everybody is affected differently by a lot of things. You can't make a blanket statement and you really can't compare one person to another. If you are naturally an unmotivated person, you will continue to be unmotivated.
I have been 'partaking' for over 40 years and am quite happy with my station in life. I won't state my salary but I would guess it's better than the vast majority of people here.
My friend in California lives on the water in Alameda in a multi-million dollar home and is looking to retire soon. He's 49 and 'partakes' regularly.
My golfing friend is 72. He's been 'partaking' since he was 17. He retired at 52 and has a house in Mandarin and a beachfront condo in Ormond.
I've also got a friend from tailgating that is an A1 stoner that goes through an ounce a week.
You can't generalize. Personality plays a HUGE part.

This applies to everything. It's not really a weed issue.
"How much better could they be at "time consuming activity A" if they spent less time on "time consuming activity B"."
It's a simple opportunity cost problem.
Here is a detailed example. " He could have made so much more money had he spent his extra time working another job and furthering his studies, but he spent his time having girlfriends, wives, and families. "
It's up to people to decide what is more important to them; whether that be the square footage of their house, or it be all the memories they made throughout their life.
You only have one life, with a finite amount of time, it's up to you to decide what you want to do with it.

I'd be willing to bet that the statistics prove that those stories are far outweighed by the negative ones. By a lot.

I see 14/15/16/17/18 year old kids regularly. The ones who "partake" are far less successful in high school and later in life in general then those who do not. I have seen many extremely intelligent young people lose a lot by "partaking". It wasn't a blanket statement I made, it was a statement based on years of observations. The good examples on here are far outweighed by the negative in the grand scheme of things.

Abstract thought can be better though some people find it helps them focus. Most that I know just get baked.

You may be surprised by how many smoked weed and you never knew it.

Yea you are right. Everyone is doing it.

To be honest I don't smoke for several reasons like,
a. It's not conducive to employment.
b. According to my acquaintances, it's an expensive hobby.
c. I like my lungs to function properly.
But, I don't judge people that do.
I agree you shouldn't have access to it under 18, but there are worse things that kids have easy access to, like pregnancy and alcohol*.
To certain people weed is like the devil incarnate and having a discussion with them is like...

* I actually enjoy alcohol, but it's been awhile since I was younger than the legal age.

C'mon, man, I didn't say that. But I can tell you for certain more do than you might expect, and more than you might expect are functional and able to excel.
Obviously, excessive use has a cost.
I smoked daily in high school and college and ended up with two engineering degrees and an MBA but I can tell you it probably would have been easier for me to achieve those milestones had I not smoked. Nonetheless, I did and once I went into the corporate world where drug testing was gaining popularity it occurred to me that it wasn't worth the risk. I quickly found out that being high made me stupid.

I'm never one to try converting anyone, but for conversational purposes...
a. True enough, but the times, they are a' changin'. Any more on that, I'd have to move this thread to the Political forum.
b. It can be, but can be cheaply cultivated after startup costs. Again, can't discuss what it will take for it to happen.
c. Vape. Not only is it healthier than smoking, it cuts the cost in half.
