Yesterday we took a step back on both sides of the ball and probably one of this year losses that we deserved the most. 

Not because of what Atlanta did but because of what we didn't do.

 

-The offense yesterday took a step back. In the first half the pass protection was awful, receivers and TE's kept dropping balls, running game non existant. The final interception destroyed the only really good drive we could get going.

In the second half the offense started well with the 2 TD's but then the 2 DRob fumbles really killed 2 drives early for us. 

The pass defense was outrageous yesterday but the offense underperformed considering a bad Atlanta defense and that we basically only 3 good drives in the entire game (one of which started in the opposing team field thanks to Poz interception). 

While other times our defense kept our offense back, this time I feel that even the offense didn't do enough.

 

-We missed Yeldon and Walters. 

DRob is good for giving a rest to Yeldon but his ball security is often bad. The fumbles came really at the wrong time just as we had the momentum going. 

Walters was missed. Greene is good on special teams but as a receiver he had several drops this year including a big one yesterday in the first half.

On all those 3rd downs that we failed to convert the lack of Walters was tangible, he has often been our go to guy in those situations.

 

-Defense: last week it gave me hope that Bradley and the staff finally started playing more aggressively and we could finally be able to hide our weaknesses in terms of talent. 

This week we went back to our usual selves letting the Falcons convert 3rd and long after 3rd and long like so many times this season.

Atlanta kept going to just 2 receivers all game and somehow we were never even close to cover them.

After a good display last week against the Colts our soft zone has been torn apart once again.

 

-Special teams: a step back here too, Anger punts were horrible, Marshall decision to return the final kick off letting us start from 11 yards was a poor display as well.

 

Just my 2 cents.

It's a fallacy to think every week is gonna be like last week.  The reason they had success blitzing Indy was a shaky Colts OL and a 40-year old QB.  Matt Ryan is a good QB and Jones is a beast of a WR.  If you don't get home against a good QB he will burn you. 

Why do people go through so much angst over our losses this year? I mean really, what did you all realisticly expect at the start of the season from such a young and developing team. Few teams in the NFL go through as massive as a rebuild as we have and yet you guys expect them to be perfect. And I'm talking about those of you that whine constsntly.


In terms of winnable games like this one, really it shows in our overall progress where we are as a team. We win some, we lose some be it winnable or not. I mean the Panthers are undefeated but how close were we to winning that game?


Appreciate the progress thus far and believe that it's only going up from here, because it is. A few changes in personnel and addition of a few more really legitimate defensive studs and we're balling.

Colts game was a fluke against an old, injured, backup qb... which is why the defense still looking like garbage wasn't a surprise.

LOL.... at steps forward and steps back during week to week seasons. 

 

The bottom line.......

 

The Jags offense is a playoff offense.

 

The Jags defense is terrible. 27.1 ppg is 30th in the NFL and WORST in Jags history.

 

 

Fix the defense. Gus Bradley is a defensive coach and he's terrible. Teams don't make the playoffs giving up 27 points per game.

The Texans give up 21.5 ppg and they are in the playoffs. A 6 ppg difference is the difference between making the playoffs and not making the playoffs. Bill O'Brien is a better coach than Gus. 

When you go through the groups on offense and defense, too much work to do and need more players.  Young teams find ways to lose and need time to develop.  This team is closer but this isn't our year.  At least the games have been watchable.

Yeah, totally agree that so long as every other team we face is decimated by injury to the point of playing third stringers or led by lame duck coaches then Gus can give us at least a 50/50 chance of winning

2016 is going to be Bradley's year of reckoning. It's obvious at this point where the team needs to improve. Lots of energy will be poured into addressing the defensive woes. If the defence isn't significantly improved next season, then 2016 will likely be a repeat of 2015, and Bradley won't be the coach anymore. It's pretty simple.

Better scheme and better coaching. Gus hasn't done ANYTHING well since he's been here.

Exactly. The plan was to build the offense and then focus on defense. With the upcoming additions I expect to happen, if we're bad next year then I am all in on the Fire Gus bus. There should be no reason we don't get any premier pass rush or secondary players in the off season. But that's it.

Bortles' INT at the end of the half was a bad one.  And at a minimum was a 6 point swing.... took 3 points off the board and gave them 3 points.  But aside from that Bortles played really well I thought.  Was constantly having to avoid pressure and was still able to make plays down the field.  If your QB has to be perfect to beat a bad team on a historic losing streak (falcons still could be the first team ever to start 5-0 and finish with a losing record), then you've got major problems all over the place.

 

Imagine if we didnt have Bortles... we would be staring at another 2 win season at best.

Does Gus have JJ Watt and Clowney on defense? No Gus has no pass rushers, without that his defense is useless 

Not sure why people are saying Matt Ryan is a good QB.  He's one of the biggest reasons they were on a huge losing streak prior to playing us and hasn't done a lot for them since he's been there.

Didn't he lead them to a 14-2 season a couple of years back?

13-3 actually, but that's not really valid reasoning on how he's a good QB since it's a team sport.  But if we wanted to look at win/loss records, he's 1-4 in postseason.
