Only if he chooses to stay 1A. My guess is he will transfer to 1AA.

I hate that he is, but it is probably a smart move for him playing time wise. If the QB who starts the season goes 6-0, 5-1, then the of them going back to Grier as the starter after no game action for a year would probably be pretty slim. I wish him well wherever he ends up.
And the more I think about it, I really can't see him going to anything but 1AA (or 2, but that won't happen). That would mean he'd have to sit for two full seasons. You only get 5 to play 4 so can't see it.

That is JUCO? Would he still have to sit out the six games for that?

Might not affect him there, but his clock has started already for the NCAA, so the year at a JUCO would count. Then when he got to any NCAA school he'd still have to serve his half season punishment that would be left.

If he still has to sit out six games after going JUCO i think he's making a mistake. He's a very talented player, he would have a legitimate shot at starting in 2017 for the gators.

He wont go juco.

Either way, he's out of FBS for a year and six games. Is that right?

Just the next 6 games

Only if he chooses to transfer to an FBS school. If he goes FCS, 1AA, then he'd be eligibel after the 6 games.

No, incorrect. If he stays FBS he's out a full season per NCAA transfer rules. If you transfer up or laterally you sit a year.
I hadn't been as excited to see a QB come to UF since Tebow until I started reading into Will Grier. Having to see him sit for a year for no reason sucked bad enough, then the suspension, now this... sad college career so far for this kid. I find it hard to believe he wouldn't be the guy after his suspension was up but I guess he doesn't want to chance it.

Will Grier to UM

Yeah, I confuse Miami for 1AA too sometimes.
What was his reasoning?  Is he worried about losing his starting job when he returns from suspension?  If the Gators do land one of these big name QB recruits who comes in and shines pretty quickly, maybe Grier would never see the field again.  Or perhaps does he feel like the Gators did him wrong?  Sure the story we were told is that it was an over the counter mistake but maybe the truth is the Gator coaching staff gave him something and he feels bitter on how it all went down.

This is a dumb suspension. Unless whatever happened was bad enough to get kicked off the team or cause serious jail time, no college suspension should last longer than the current season. If it happens at bowl game time, that should be the only time a college suspension carries over to the next year.
There is a rumor going around gator nation and it is picking up steam. The rumor is Grier f'ed up again. We will find out if it is true or not. Explains the sudden 360.

I kind of wondered the same thing. I thought the "we will support him" stuff sounded more like a "don't let the door hit ya" kind of thing...
Well, I hope our two recruit QBs are good, smh Grier messed it all up

I thought he was talking about just the suspension itself. If he transfers then yeah it's a year and a half

First of all it is dumb that he did it. But I think it is just as stupid that the NCAA issues 12-month bans. The NFL only suspends first-time offenders for four games. It is not like Will Grier broke a law.

Florida needed those two quarterbacks anyway. A bad situation got worse.
