If Fred gets in then does Smith and Keenan?

I think it will take the Jaguars winning a championship or two before FT even comes close to getting any HOF consideration.
I think with these championships, the Jaguars would have a larger national following, which would, in turn, cause more people to learn about this franchise's history, which would cause more of the HOF voters to look at Jaguars players like FT and Jimmy Smith as possible HOF candidates.

All time favorite player, but I don't think he will ever get in.
Not enough TDs and not enough league accolades.
The unfortunate truth is that both of these count.

Quote:I think Fred is in before Gore
Fred is, by far, the better RB. But good luck finding many RBs that are more consistent than Gore.
Gore only had one good year, but he's had so many decent seasons. Had he not missed a few games in 2010, he would've had 9 1,000+ yard seasons. He fell 33 yard short from making it 11 1,000+ yard seasons.
I don't think Gore is as talented as some of the HoF running backs, but Emmitt Smith pretty much made it because of consistency. I could see Gore playing 2 or 3 more seasons. In comparison, Gore has almost 1,500 fewer carries than Smith in 2 fewer seasons.
Quote:Fred Taylor was always better than Edgerrin James and should get in ahead of James if either get in.
James got the recognition because of Peyton, and he was more productive because of him, too. Fred never had a Manning-level QB to help him.
I don't think James is nearly as successful without him. Which is probably why his production fell when he left for Arizona and retired soon after.

The reason why I think that Fred eventually gets the votes is due to the change in the RB position since his era.
Committees are the norm and bell-cows are fewer and farther between. Because of this there will simply be fewer and fewer backs racking up 11.000 yards rushing in their careers. Add in shorter careers for backs and passing game emphasis and it gets even tougher for a back to reach 11K.
Fred's 11,695 yards will look more and more impressive as modern backs fail repeatedly to eclipse the mark.

305 yards might be the difference.

I think he gets in by 2025 too. Hopefully Fournette does some grateful things and it rekindles the media's memory of mjd and Freddie t. We have a very strong history of running backs. Even if Fournette does do great things he may not measure up to either of those guys.
The weak rb position in the nfl definitely helps the hof consideration for Taylor in the short term. I don't think gore deserves to be in before Taylor. AP is a the last first ballot running back well see for some time imo.

That's why I think he gets in soon. Other than edgerin James there is no hall worthy rb to be eligible in the next 6-7 years.

I would have liked to see another couple productive seasons (to make up for those he was injured and not as productive) to seal the deal. It would be good to see him make it.

It ain't no Frank Gore maybe
Frank Gore will be in the HOF.
Frank Gore will be in the HOF.

Frank Gore is currently 8th all time with 13,065 yards.
He could retire right now and be first ballot based on those numbers alone.
And without looking...he was undrafted I think.

The guys voting for these spots know their football, and they'll know that Fred was always better than Edge. No way Edge should get in first.

Sadly, some go by the numbers. And based on the numbers Edge and Frank COULD make it before Taylor.
If Taylor even makes it. Heck, Boselli is still waiting. I don't even think Fred's name has been on a ballot yet.

The only thing that will hurt Fred is didn't do much in NE. Granted didn't have much in tank anymore. But that is a measuring stick for many.

Bilichick gushed about Taylor in September and didn't put him on IR even though he had a major injury that sidelined him for 8 or 9 weeks.
If he had nothing left in the tank -- Bilichick must have been a complete fool.
