I had no idea where this should've gone, but it was an awesome read.

NBC would be stupid not to place the Jaguars/Raiders game on Sunday Night next year.

Why would NBC be stupid? Right now, we are unlikely to make the playoffs and the Raiders have already been ruled out. The matchup is never going to be a rivalry of any sort. Also, the NFL, not NBC, determines which games are played on Sunday night.

All of these things are the reason why people make fun of you.

where have the Raiders been ruled out?

OK, so Oakland is 6-7. But not one NFL insider has ever suggested the Raiders are playoff contenders - and yes, I read all of the playoff-related articles on NFL.com, which explains everything. Also, everyone knows it is nearly impossible to clinch the division title this season unless we win out. Therefore, both teams are unlikely to clinch playoff berths. I did not make that up. Now of course that could change next year, but if the NFL schedules it for early in the season, nobody is going to know yet if either the Jaguars or Raiders are true playoff contenders. So it could depend on which week we play against the Raiders whether it is a good game for Sunday night or not.

My bad; I typed that before looking at the updated playoff picture.
Did we suddenly forget who is at the helm in Oakland?

Of course not. We also know teams in different divisions don't hate each other just because of a coach connection. The Rams and Titans would be rivals if that happened. The Raiders and Buccaneers would have been rivals because of Jon Gruden's move to Tampa.

You're attempting to create an argument where one isn't there. I don't know what compelled you to attempt to refute every little sentence in my post, and while I commend you for doing your homework, it isn't necessary.

This is an "enjoy the article and move on" post. Not the topic of a heated discussion.
Blake Bortles vs Marcus Mariota is going to get a lot of premiere games if Mariota takes the next step forward

Agreed, Doc Holliday.

I just know I am excited for the Jaguars to have one of the new wave of good/great young QB prospects.

If we build a defense and a better running game around him, this team will contend for a long time.

I've thought this about the raiders for a while. Both teams have young talent and are ascending at the same time. The Raiders might develop a little slower given their division is functional, but once the Broncos cap catches up to them they should have no problem. So they'll be our conference rivals (IE Pats-Colts).

Then I also really believe in Mariota. His next year will be a big test but if he passes it we will have two (or three if you think Luck is elite) elite QBs in the division for a long time. Fun times to be a Jags fan.
Wait so rivalries can only be within a division? What about:

Brady/Peyton, NE/IND

Manning Bowl

Seattle/GB is becoming one

There can be bad blood outside the division. You better believe Gruden wanted to crush Tampa, Fisher wants to beat Tennessee, and I want to beat Del Rio every time we play his team. Coaching rivalries are pretty common.
I could easily see a rivalry developing with the Raiders if both teams ascend to playoff contenders as I expect.  They could meet up in the post season many times in the years to come.

One thing that I haven't heard talked about anywhere is the Raiders young talent potentially being appealing to build up the Los Angeles market.   The Raiders seem to be the afterthought in the decision making process of which team ( s ) should be able to move to Los Angeles.  But from the standpoint of rosters that would help market the team in L.A.,  the Raiders would seem to be the best fit.   The Rams QB of the future isn't even on their roster.   While Philip Rivers has had a very good NFL career and is arguably the most underrated QB in the game,  he's in his mid 30's.

I never said there can't be rivalries outside the division. Of course there are and have been. My argument there was teams don't hate each other because of one person who was on both. Titans fans do not hate the Rams because of Jeff Fisher. There is no bad blood between the two teams. How bad Jeff Fisher wants to beat Tennessee is one thing; utter hatred for the Titans is a totally different animal. I guess you had a problem understanding the difference between individual and team rivalries.

The Seahawks/Packers "rivalry" started with the Fail Mary. It has absolutely nothing to do with who is coaching the teams, obviously. The Manning/Brady rivalry was totally individual - it was not Colts/Patriots, just Manning/Brady, and continued after Manning moved to Denver. (I think that one is over now because Brock Osweiler started the last episode.) And how can the Manning Bowl be a rivalry when it is about guys in the same family playing against each other? The media makes a big deal about it because of who the quarterbacks are.

Back to the Raiders, I think it is natural to compare their progress with ours because they began to vastly improve at the same time we did. I just don't see why that or JDR should make it a rivalry.
Rival:

1 :to be in competition with

2 :to strive to equal or excel

So yes, if Jax and Oak are two of the best AFC teams for the next 15 years and we're constantly squaring off in the playoffs, then that is most certainly a rivalry.

You don't need to have "bad blood" to be a rivalry.

I really don't feel like typing out how my other examples are definitely rivalries.
This is my point, an d what most whiners don't see. This team is on the way to being special. And I know, your patience is long past, but listen, next year, it's on. If Caldwell invests heavily in the defense like I think he will, we're there. With Gus at the helm and all. I wouldn't change a single thing on the coaching staff except maybe Babich lol. But outside of that, next year, we're built.

The NFL Scouting Combine measurables and collegiate production suggest Fowler should be in Mack’s league. Fowler is 10 pounds heavier than Mack with longer arms and was faster in the 40-yard dash, but Mack was stronger with more explosive athleticism at the combine.

Still, until we see Fowler have a game close to what Mack just produced against the Broncos (five sacks), it’s a massive edge to Oakland. Mack leads the NFL with 14 sacks.

We could use a few more guys on offense too and obviously need a kicker, but yes, fixing the defense is the top priority in 2016. Whether Bob Babich should stay or go depends on how good our defense is after we get the talent required to win games at all 11 positions, so I would not change the DC either before that happens.

Khalil Mack obviously has a one-year advantage because he did not miss his rookie season. Keep this in mind when comparing Mack and Dante Fowler. Also remember Leo is a Gus Bradley thing JDR didn't try, so the two players will not be used the same way. But I have no problem with fans comparing them if they want to.
