I still find it hard to believe that somewhere out there that there isn't a better kicker than Jason Myers available to kick for us. I suspect that those responsible are not actually looking very hard...

I feel like the jags should some how find a loop hole in the injured reserve rules and re-activate GERHART! He is 0-4 in goal line situations. He is obviously due right?

The problem is all of the available kickers suck too. Other teams have to put their kickers on IR and pick up free agents. That causes a kicker shortage. Also, the Buccaneers had to change kickers because their guy was worse than ours.
I thought of this last Sunday.  We should just cut Myers now and go for 2 every single time.  Completely serious.

Tough to find a kicker this time of year. Most of the viable options don't have the time to get the type of reps that they would need to keep them in good form. Unemployed kickers have to get real jobs until next year if they don't land a gig early on.

It would take a guy weeks and weeks to get his leg back into proper kicking form. Not really a viable option this time of year.
I've wondered myself why they just don't go for two more often. I wish someone would ask Gus this during a press conference.

Myers is 29/36 on extra points, which is 80.6 percent, or .806.

.806 x 1 point = .8 expected points from Myers on extra points.

League average for 2 point conversion is 39/83, which is 47 percent, or .47.

.47 x 2 points = .94 expected points from going for two.

.94 > .8

Fire Myers and go for two.

Science demands it.

If you fire Myers what do we do about the FGs?  He has been pretty good on his FG attempts lately

Punt, or go for the first.  There is no kick.  Push the ball over the end zone.

Except we aren't converting at the league average.

We are currently 0-2 on our 2 point conversions this year and were 25% last year.

We have been awful in short yardage situations this year. With an extra point you get only one shot to get in the endzone. It took 4 plays from the 1 yard line before Bortles could score only our 4th rushing TD of the season last week.

Scoring 2 would be great, but we haven't shown that we are anywhere near the league average in converting those types of plays

If we just cut Myers, who will kick off? LOL Gotta get a kicker anyway you know.
Yes, all the time.

Random thought:

What happens if you line up for line up for two, there is a defensive penalty that moves the ball half the distance to the goal, and then you decide to kick the extra point? Can you at that point? Would the ball be half the distance from where it originally would have been kicked from?

I need sleep.

Quote:Great point. Steelers style.

The Steelers plan has been working for them. What they do is to go for the two-point conversion on their first TD in each game. After that they tend to follow the chart and let the game situation dictate the call just like every other team. It's just that more often than not they get that initial 2 points where they're able to put 8 on the board early.

I get this, but there's another side effect of doing what the Steelers do, and it's that it gives you plenty of practice in actual game situations. Because they only do this early, there's plenty of time to make up for a missed two points.

I don't know the answer to your question but, hell, we should try it every time.

If we don't get them to jump offsides, just accept the delay of game penalty and the longer distance will probably work in Myers favor...

Go for 2 every time.

NO... you don't change you game plan, you change your kicker.
