Quote:You should really, really, really review the first round picks from UF the last 20 years. It reads like a whos who of draft busts. Taking a player from UF is like forfeiting your pick.
Oh really? Lets take a look at FSU's 1st round busts instead. Aside from Derrick Brooks, Warrick Dunn, Peter Boulware, and Walter Jones... It gets pretty sad. I guess you could throw in Antonio Cromartie too, but meh.
EJ Manuel
Christian Ponder
Bjoern Werner
Patrick Robinson
Ernie Sims
Kamerion Wimbley
Brockrick Bunkley
Travis Johnson
Alex Barron
Javon Walker
Jamal Reynolds
Derrick Gibson
Peter Warrick
Corey Simon
Andre Wadsworth
Derrick L. Alexander
Devin Bush
Reinard Wilson
I could keep going too. There's even more busts I could bring up, but I stopped at 95. And you talk about the Gators? Wow.
Quote: I'm not pro or anti U-F. But at least one other 1st Round pick that had a long and effective NFL playing career was Lomas Brown.
Yes, I agree with that assessment.
Quote:Floridasportsgod is an idiot. Typical for most fsu fans.
I'm better than you though that's not saying much.
Quote:So are we talking about all draft spots or just first rounders?
I would say all draft spots. A lot of players drafted after the first round are pretty successful regardless of which school they went to.
Sosa, Javon Walker was not a bust in Green Bay. His production declined after the Packers let him play somewhere else.
Quote:Good one.
Yeah, because your witticism is the height of discourse. Sometimes I have to talk down to your level.

I agree with you that FSUs record isn't much better, but I didn't really suggest taking any of them either, now did I? And on that list several of them have had solid if not spectacular careers. I wonder if a few of those guys might've been better in one of these Gus-type schemes that use smaller, lighter pass rushers. Wilson and Reynolds were both unsuited to either traditional DE or outside 'backer like Boulware, but they seem more like what we're searching for in a LEO. Wadsworth was on his way to a great career when his knees gave out, that's too bad because that Cards D with him and Rice was fun to watch for a brief time. Eisley might be that same kind of guy, he looked decent this year but his knees are already so bad that he's probably not long for the league.
I won't take the time to compare lost value between the two schools on first round picks, but clearly the Noles have a better % of HOF careers in the time period you're evaluating. I think we can both agree that the history of QB play from those schools leaves a lot to be desired at the next level. It's interesting to me that these two power programs had so many misses while they were both so strong, but Miami keeps putting out great NFL players while their program is awful.

1st rounders aren't suppose to decline randomly and suck. He had some really good years in Green Bay, but the level of production did not live up to his draft position. The thing about 1st rounders is they can be decent players, but it's a major let down if they play like 3rd/4th rounders. Just like Alualu, the guy is decent but does NOT play anywhere near a 1st round talent. Telvin Smith on the other hand was a nice surprise, and plays like a 1st rounder in my opinion.

I think everyone knew Gene Smith did not want to pick Tyson Alualu that high. He tried to trade down to get a second round pick, which we gave up the previous year for Derek Cox, but was unable to find a trade partner.
