Full Version: Nolan Nawrocki revisited

I am no fan of Carolina.

Hatred for them still lingers in my being dating back to the expansion race, as does the nausea that accompanies the fact they made the Super Bowl before we did.

Them being 12-0 at the moment does not make this any better.

However, with the Panthers being a league best 12-0 and MVP talk beginning to swirl around Cam Newton, Nolan Nawrocki's pre draft evaluation of Cam Newton suddenly popped in my head.

It was an absolute hatchet job on the kid that generated a ton of controversy around it.

Here is an article that references it.

Among the quotes attributed to Nawrocki...

Quote:

"Has an enormous ego with a sense of entitlement that continually invites trouble and makes him believe he is above the law — does not command respect from teammates and always will struggle to win a locker room. Only a one-year producer. Lacks accountability, focus and trustworthiness — is not punctual, seeks shortcuts and sets a bad example. Immature and has had issues with authority. Not dependable."

Was Nawrocki right about Newton some 4-5 years ago?

If not, will he offer a mea culpa?

I doubt a redaction (?) will be posted. Since when has one of these new aged "sports journalists" ever shown a sense of accountability?

The article you posted reeks of high mindedness and I can honestly see the author blaming the squad for allowing Newton to act how he does.

Cam, for all of his previous sins, seems like a pretty good dude.

I doubt it too.

In fact, I doubt the media will even bring it up and hold him accountable.

I don't think at the time he was incorrect.

I know I saw at least pre-game show, or half time piece, or something along those lines where he had an epiphany after (I think) his first year that supposedly changed his attitude.  Supposedly he's grown up a lot since his rookie year.

I'm impressed in Cam Newton becoming a leader and the way he gives back to children.   Most noticeably,  giving a child a ball after he scores a TD.   Some of the other Panthers players now do this as well.

The word you are looking for is "retraction."
Nawrocki displayed a distinct bias against black quarterbacks for a while there. He talked about how fake RG3 was without ever having met the guy. Don't know if he's gotten any better, don't care. Anyone who offers up "fake smile" as a serious problem with a player has no credibility for me.
Nawrocki is an idiot. I wouldn't put it past him to be a closet racist either.

Did anyone else see a video highlight of the field judge and ball boy not letting Cam Newton do that? He literally had to snatch it out of the ball boy's hand. This would be a perfect "C'mon, Man!" moment on ESPN because until Sunday, every FJ let him do it. The video did make me wonder why Ted Ginn did not give it to a kid though.

No, that's not it. I just did not do a good enough job of explaining myself. A retraction is where the Paper themselves pull an article and make a statement along the lines of "such and such a fact was not true at all." I was looking for a term where Nawrocki comes out and states himself that he was wrong and that he probably shouldn't have wrote what he did. I know there are a few times around here at work where people use the term redact for such a thing but that may not be completely correct.
