The Jaguars slim playoff hopes coming into this game were hanging by a thread.  The thread got cut today with the loss.  My thoughts.

1.  I have been saying for most of the past two seasons that special teams cost us some winnable games.  The kick coverage teams were good.  The kick return teams were good.  However, the difference in the game was that Myers missed two (2) extra points.  Even though they were moved back to 33 yard kicks as opposed to the traditional 19 yard kicks, that is inexcusable.  Why was the first extra point not lined up in the middle, but instead on the left hash?  He has now missed FIVE extra points in 12 games.  It is hard to justify to keep him.

2.  It is a shame that stellar performances by Bortles (5 TDs and ZERO INTs, Jaguars record for TDs passes in a game and TD passes in a single season) and Robinson (160+ yards, 3 TDs, first Jaguars WR to surpass 1000 yards in a season) were wasted by Myers misses, Wiz's bad snap, and porous run defense independent of the Mariota run.  What was with all of the missed tackles?

3.  The irony and sad part about that long Mariota scramble is it actually looked like a pretty good blitz was called on the play.  The team got pretty good pressure on him.  Nevertheless, that drive exemplified the Jaguars defense all year-get teams backed up in poor field position and remain unable to keep them pinned down.

4.  Nice to see the team run a little more, though they still need to be more effective in that area.  Robinson looked better than Yeldon, though Yeldon had a great catch and run late.

5.  I think we need another LB as athletic as Telvin Smith to cover TEs..  What is it with that position that so mystifies this team?

6.  I thought Bortles actually got pretty good protection today, and the offense performed great in the red zone.  The defense seems to be taking the rest of the season off.

7.  Bottom line:  Even though we got a little help from Buff[BAD WORD REMOVED], bad defense and placekicking doomed this team to another .500 at best season.  We'll see if this team quits down the stretch...and we'll see how the young guys continue to develop.
Anyone know bortles QB rating for the game?

edit: just calculated it, 158.3

139.1  134.4 I believe.

what teams are we playing that you think we'll beat?

We have just lost to to of the worst in the NFL back to back.

If we couldn't beat the chargers or the tacks just who are we supposed to beat?

Only team we can beat now is one that WANTS to lose to us.

We're done.....kaput......it's over.  Rolleyes

Bortles>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Teddy
I was under the impression that the second missed XP was #6 for Mr. Myers.

We beat the teams around us and they beat us. The fact is we're still a bottom 8 team and the others team in the bracket will beat us and we'll beat them. I think we've played 3 good teams this year (Jets, Pats and Panthers) which leaves us at 4-5 against teams I'd consider "around" us.

Now that the defense has gone south...none.

All of our remaining opponents except Houston have credible QBs.  We can't stop anybody with a credible QB.

Houston has such a good defense, unless they are eliminated from playoff contention the week before, I don't see us beating them.

Well yes, there is that.... but while life remains there is hope.
Offense Solid-Great, Defense Garbage

Rinse, Repeat 2015

Did you get the completions and attempts backwards? I did that at first.
How do you have a defensive minded coach, and your defense is the worst in the NFL?

Nah, their calculator is probably just off or something.

135.5 to be precise.
Bullseye

This team has never, ever covered the TE not in our entire history.  I can dredge up heartburn just thinking of all the TE's and Hybrid Players filling for the TE Position that have destroyed us.

Frank Whycheck - Oilers/Tacks

Mark Bruener - Pitt

Dallas Clark - Colts

Owen Daniels - Texans

Heath Miller - Pitt

I can even look at second tier players and they feast on the Jaguars.

ala Coby Fleener - Colts
Delanie Walker...

Dallas Clark's name still makes me shutter. He was a pioneer for his position for sure.
I love Poz's aggressiveness and his run defense , but the image I have of him on pass defense is him running 2-3 yards behind the tight end over the middle, too slow to make a play.

We put almost no pressure on the QB. Most NFL QB's will carve you up.

Our LB's , with the exception of #50, are terrible in under 15 yard pass coverage. I watched them today.......they establish a position in zone defense and stand there like statues as the receivers find openings between them. The QB, because he has so much time, patiently waits for them to find the open gaps.
