My (admittedly limited) understanding of chaos theory is that it deals with the difficulty of prediction and the appearance of randomness, but it's not saying there is an actuality of randomness.   Small variations in initial conditions can produce the appearance of randomness, but it (chaos theory) does not say that anything is truly random or spontaneous. 

 

So I don't see how it refutes determinism.   I don't see how it refutes the idea that everything has a cause and that nothing is truly spontaneous. 

 

What is your thinking on this?    Please keep it as simple as possible.   I am not trying to act smarter than I am, and I am untrained in any advanced science or physics.
