Quote:Some people are just too complacent. Our vaunted offense couldn't beat a bottom 2 scoring defense last week. We have a long way to goo and we were supposed to be rebuilt by now.
So yeah this year is a big disappointment but it's not like we're 1/2 players way. We still need line help. We don't run the ball in the red zone so it's still TBD if yeldon can be a feature back. We have no rush, injury concerns to our supposed stars Marks and Fowler. Our secondary? Yikes.
We are still the NFL's biggest joke (outside of Cleveland).
Stop accepting mediocrity. And stop using the excuse that the roster was gutted. It was caldwells decision.
I agree with this...prepared to be flamed by every apologist.

Jeez, what a surprise.

Yup, the board vigilanti!
Quote:Yeah, biggest joke!! Yet there's 3 teams fighting to be the next LA failure. By the way, the vaunted offense put up 26.
That's actually less than SD's average allowed PPG. Let that sink in.

Look dude, I know you love Bortles, and I can almost say no one hates him. Any criticism of him, and you freak out. It's definitely warranted. Dude is good for us, but he is a TO machine, and he always does it at the WORST time.

There shouldn't be disagreement with what I wrote. Perhaps some might be more patient with getting results but nobody can deny we still have major holes.

WOW!!! 1.9 point difference, should I bow?

I've said right along in letting it play out, along with interception complaints. I've joined in on the criticism in threads.

I didn't know there was a GOOD time for a TO.. Guess what...Even great QB's throw interceptions...
I'm optimistic too. But I hope that Caldwell brings pass rushers in. Can't rely on just 1 unproven guy.
I'd be surprised if they didn't either draft or take an additional pass rusher in free agency.
We need more than two pass rushers.....you need 3 or 4.....they need to stay fresh.

Stale pass rushers?

Im really intrigued how they are going to attack this position. They have Dante, maybe a free agent, then I don't know how loaded this draft is with rushers. They'll most likely be rid of Clemons and Branch, so I'm concerned about the ability to fix this next year.

I'd say up by 40 points with a few minutes left in the game is not a bad time to throw an INT.
Even up by 30 wouldn't be terrible.
Honestly start of the season I was way more negative about our direction. At this point I've seen enough flashes to be good with our progress. We made some mistakes at the start of the rebuild but I feel like caldwells learned from them and adjusted accordingly. I'm not as down on Gus as others but I could see him being replaced in the offseason. We have the skill players it's just a matter of finding the big ugly to compete and I think Caldwell well can get us that by the end of next season
Most of the folks who want Gus gone are basing that desire on his record. The dude has been coaching a team staffed by very young players...and a few experienced free agents/leftovers from the previous regime. Through all the losses, he's kept the locker room behind him. His upbeat attitude for some reason torques some folks bolts, but his players appear to love him. I would and fully expect Khan to give him one more year. Allow the growth...the "race to maturity" play out. Even though the wins are not quite there, we have seen improvement. Let's face it...add a pass rush (which they kinda thought they had (Fowler and a healthy Marks) and you probably get 2-3 more wins. Certainly Rivers doesn't get the 8 yard 4th down run with a decent pass rush. That would give us one win right there (probably). Old QB's kill us. Because old QB's can stand back there and pick us to death. That's not on Gus. You can't scheme around that level of ineptitude. Branch is awful. But he's the best we have who is not on IR.
Other thoughts...Bortles does throw too many interceptions. However it is getting better. The end of the half INT by T'eo was a great play on T'eo...not really a bad throw. Bortles is pressing...pretty much all of the time...because of all the well recounted issues with which he deals. It will get better. Linder's return will be key. A little fine-tuning and the Oline will be at least serviceable. Most of the parts are there right now (if on IR). The Oline inproves and Yeldon goes from pretty OK to darn good.
Finally...Gus's comment that the "rebuild is complete" was probably misguided. We're still a year short. If we don't tear it up next year (9+ wins, a couple three of them by double digit margins) then I'll cheerfully (and wrothfully) join the fire Gus brigade. Replacing him after this year would be unfortunate because it would set the progress back...at least a bit...and would really not be fair. Yup, I know, this is a production business and fairness ain't part of the deal, but why not? This rebuild is unique to my (really long) experience...let them play it out. Lose big...Lose small...Win small...Win big!

Hey, I've been thinking for a few minutes and I can't see why a total overhaul takes even longer than a full rebuild.

If Gus is here next year, and it looks like he will be, then he will really have to improve as a HC to get this team to 9 close wins because I just don't see Gus having very many double digit wins. I just don't.
He only has 1 double digit wins in his 11 so far, although he has had several games where he has had a double digit lead. ( 17-0 at Eagles, 27-3 against the Bills, and there is at least another 10 point lead where he was up 10-0 or 13-3 in there)
I would love to see the Jags just blowout another team, I have forgotten what it feels like to be on the right side of a blowout win.
