Quote:Thats how those teams ended, FSU and Clemson this year and last year had/have been ranked #1.obviously This has hit a nerve with you yet again. But carry on UF knight.
You're a fsu fan, what is Clemson doing in your conversation? That sounds an awful lot like taking pride in your conference. Funny how that works when you finally have something to be proud about, huh?
Quote:It's really not complicated or strange. You're wasting your time comparing it to the NFL. That is totally different (no polls, no recruiting). SEC fans have a method to their madness, and they've succeeded in creating a perception that the SEC is the best conference in football.
That perception leads to benefits for their own favorite school:
1. strength of schedule being perceived more difficult, leading to better poll rankings
2. recruits perceiving that the SEC is the best place to play
3. coaches perceiving the SEC as the best place to coach
other benefits exist not listed. you also have to consider why ESPN has a deal with the SEC to televise all their games. The SEC network is the most watched of all conference networks. The SEC simply has more fans that care.
Very well thought out post.
Like I've said in the past, it was a joke with my brother and some friends that I was a bandwagoner because I rooted for Miami, FSU, and UF least of all to win every weekend. It didn't matter to me as long as a Florida school was doing well, well everyone except USF, screw USF.
People tend to have a rooting interest in groups that have similarities. The SEC and the links that Badger gave above are what ties those fans. The only reason people from other fan base have an issue with it is because you don't root for one of those schools.

ACC ACC ACC!
It is kind of ironic that in a thread bashing conference pride, the guy throws out conference pride when someone makes a dig at his conference. lol

Weellllll. To me that's a bit different than rooting on or bragging about your conference. If someone says, Hey the SEC sucks, then you can point to the reasons that it clearly doesn't. What the theme appears to be in this thread is people taking ownership for another school doing well only because it happens to be in the same conference. When the AFC South was good, yes it was cool to be apart of, but I NEVER wanted any of them to win. I think that's the difference.
I get some of what Badger is saying I suppose, but it's still a little odd, imo.

Shhhhh little brother....your SEC pride is embarrassing. 27-2 at your house still stings doesn't it.

You defending the SEC is ironic when your rooting interest doesn't play in that conference. Silly UF Knight....always rushing to defend that overrated conference.

I sure as heck DO NOT want titans, colts or texans in the SB. I wonder why it's different.
Me neither. It's a different ball game in college. I would get into it again, but there's no point. The reasons are on the MB though, over various posts.

There you go Minorcan, there are more reasons, but Badger got it started.

Overrated conference, which in a down year, really down I would add, still had a winning record against the ACC.
I don't care if there is an sec team in the playoff or not, unless it's the gators. I doubt we will based on what I've seen the past four or so games, but I'm still gonna watch and hopefully cheer my team to victory against the daunted red elephants.

All of this is true though ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Well would you root for the AFC team over the NFC team in the Super Bowl, as long as the AFC team wasn't a team that you hate, like the rest of the AFCS teams?
If so, you are still rooting for a conference, although there are only 2 to choose from in that scenerio.

Sorry big sister, but your ACC pride is way more embarrassing, especially since you've repeatedly poked fun at the SEC for doing the exact same thing you're doing! And yes, 27-2 sucks, but not as much as it sucks for you right now, trying to tap dance your way around getting busted on the message board for letting your ACC flag fly!

No, I wouldn't root for them at all.

It's ok little brother, maybe next year. But then again you've been saying that for three years now, I know though, It's hard actually competing against real talent at FSU. But it's ok, you can wave your SEC flag and live vicariously through Alabama if you like, the only team with any real talent in the SEC. This seems to be the status quo here.

Tap dancing around again...

This thread is great. The same type thread created just to ruffle feathers that made FSU fans butt hurt when the table was turned.
I'm a Georgia fan. I will never root for Georgia to lose a game. But.. once they are out of National Title contention (like most years sigh...) I will certainly root for an SEC school to represent the conference well and to win it all.
Except for Florida.... NEVER root for Florida... Ever.. under any circumstance.... Nope.. No way.... not gonna happen...
I used to like FSU (even over SEC teams other than Georgia), but their fans have become almost as obnoxious as Gator fans the past few years.....So screw em.
